Indispensable!

this book is a gold mine if you are a motivated beginner (or have a teacher) or self-teaching intermediate jazz guitar student or hobbiest. if you already know a few of the basic, stock 7th chord voicings and have some awareness of the concepts of chord inversions and occasional rootless voicings, and the patterns of functional harmony, this book is all you need to put it all together for classic jazz guitar. even if you don't understand the theory behind it, just by copying these progressions you'll gain a solid vocabulary of sounds to deal w/ a wide range of popular classic jazz and even a little modal and soul jazz. very professional sounding, yet accessible voicings and rhythms. nothing too heavy in chord changes, and no burners. great gateway to jazz-land.

Finally

I have struggled to find a good instruction on jazz comping. This volume provide TAB for professionally sounding comp to the Mayden Voyage tunes. The comp is played on the CD with no solo on top, so you can hear how it is supposed to sound. I consider myself Intermediate, but it would be very much work to learn the comp as written. Still, I like the volume. I can pick out some simple rythmic ideas, and use them throughout a song, trying to emulate how those ideas sound on the CD. There are two pages of chord-chart for voicing jazz chards on the four first string, which is very handy.

Great Book!

This book has great comping patterns and chord forms for these tunes. It takes the basic comping patterns and turns them into professional sounding accompaniments.

Excellent book!

This book is superb. I have been playing jazz guitar for 40 years and this is simply the best of it's kind. It will advance one's comping almost immediately. I use it with my students and it has become a standard part of my teaching text books. Great stuff.
