Con Brio!

My high school band is playing Vesuvius currently. As I would say for any Ticheli piece, it is an incredible work of art. This piece is a good one to familiarize oneself with 'different' meters than your common time and the like. It requires each individual person to count and to count accurately, for there are many entrances. Also, I think this piece is played its best when you over-dramatize the dynamic markings, the articulation especially! I personally think that this piece of music improves an individual's music skills ranging from counting rhythms and rests to dynamics and contrast. The whole band is involved in the piece--no one is left bored in this on-the-edge-of-your-seat work of Ticheli's!
