Ubi Caritas. (European Masters Series). By Maurice Durufle (1902-1986) and Maurice Durufle. For SATB choir (a cappella). European Masters Series. 20th Century and Choral. Octavo. Piano rehearsal part and translations. 8 pages. Published by Editions Durand (HL.50600000).

ISBN 063404995X. With piano rehearsal part and translations. 20th Century and Choral. 6.8x10.5 inches.

Maurice Durufle based this famous motet on an ancient plainchant melody. This new adaptation makes the motet more accessible by an intelligent redistribution of parts: in its opening and closing sections, the first tenor line is reassigned to the altos, and the alto line is given to the tacet sopranos. All of Durufle's sumptuous harmonies are retained. For the first time, a piano reduction for rehearsal is included. In the brand-new unison version, the piano provides rich accompaniment; this arrangement is especially suitable for treble choirs, but is equally effective when sung by male or mixed choirs.

Ubi Caritas

This edition has ACCOMPANIMENT which is perfect for those choirs which do not do well when singing a cappella OR do not have sufficient members to supply all the voice parts. The organ fills in the blanks! We used this on Holy Thursday - the Children's Choir led in with...

A short but exquisite vocal setting of a Latin hymn

I first heard "Ubi Caritas" on the soundtrack CD of "Brother Sun, Sister Moon," which recounts some aspects of the biography of Francis of Assisi. I'm a Unitarian-Universalist and a classically trained musician and was attracted by Maurice Durufle's ethereal melody and part writing, plus the fact that the text...

Enlightenment is closer than you think

This sublime harmonic gem is accessible to most amateur singers if proper care is taken to ease them in to the closeness of pitches. The longterm musical dividends paid for your patience and perseverance will eclipse the time spent shedding wood.
