hindemith trumpet sonata
One of the major repertoire works of the twentieth century. Hindemith explores the trumpets tone and expressive mediums in this challenging work. Technically reasonably set but tremendous demands on the musicianship of the performer. Wonderful stuff as every note in this masterful work is a gem.

A piece that needs true emotion
While this piece is a bit of an endurance test for your face (especially the 'all men must die' choral at the end of the 3rd) this piece is so emotionally draining. written by an exiled german at the start of World War II, Hindemith loved his country but hated what the nazis were doing and wrote this piece as a protest to the movement. The piece has several high Bs in it and stuff below the staff. the notes aren't hard, the constant playing and emotional strain, that's where it'll get you. oh. and the trumpet and piano parts seldom line up. find a recording to know how everything fits. Beautiful piece! approx 15 min for all 3 movements. have a german dictionary handy

Hindemith Trumpet Sonata
This is a great piece! It's definitely a face killer though... lots of playing time with few chances to renew. I'm looking forward to working on it more, it's lots of fun!

I got into a major school of music
I ordered the Hindemith for my college auditions. It's a challenging piece. I would strongly recommend purchasing a recording along with the music. However, I worked on the piece for less than a month, and got into my top school w/it. The adjudicators on my trial, were amazed with the selection. They said that they never hear freshmen audition on that piece, or play it as well as I played it. I must give compliments to sheetmusicplus.com for sending me this piece, in a timely fashion, so that I had the most possible time to rehearse it prior to my auditions. I highly recommend this piece to Intermediate to Advanced players for a modern audition piece. It is a grade VI (6) piece on the Virginia scale of difficulty - thats as hard as it gets. It also works great for a senior recital. In short, its a great modern piece. Every serious musician should have the Hindemith Sonata for their applied instrument, its a staple in every musician's repertoire.

Get it. Learn it. Practice it. Play it
A standard not to be ignored. The first movement especially is one of the most powerful in the repertoire. The last movement seems simple until you try to play it. It takes finesse and endurance. It as well might be titled "Alle chops mussen sterben". An alternate title might be "concerto for piano with trumpet" since the piano part is so difficult . It is hardly "accompaniment" but rather an integral partner.

The Hindemith Revisited
Paul Hindemith composed this piece as a statement against World War II. He was a left-leaning German intellectual who probably is poorly understood by the average US high school student. And it's not really all that advisable for young people to play it, because they simply haven't formed the theoretical understanding required to accurately perform it. This isn't a hard piece technically. It is, however, difficult to manage musically. This piece should be left for conservatory or university students, and pros who have analyzed Hindemith's oevre, and are intellectually equipped to parse the musical language. This is hard stuff, people. Just because you can play the notes doesn't mean you can play the music.

Amazing Piece
As you gradully start to learn the trumpet you will come across many pieces, but none of them will be as splendid as this one...This should not be attempted by the intermediate player, as it requires focused breath and stamina...if you are an advanced player this is the ideal piece of a concert solo - it will capture the audience in many ways, due to its majestic opening and strong playing...you will also need an experienced pianist for your accompaniment...

Excellent piece
I love this piece, especially the first movement because it was the grand finale to my high school music career. I played it and achieved the highest rating at State Music competition. I had played Hummel freshman year, Haydn sophomore year, and Vivaldi and they are all great pieces for trumpet but this one is special because it is so different from what I was used to. I agree having an excellent piano player for this piece is a necessity!

Intense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am playing this piece for my jury this semester and its one hell of a piece; I like it a lot. Of course due to time constraninsts I am not playing the last movement which will stretch any trumpeters endurance. But have I become a better trumpet player because of this piece, you bet!!!!!!!!! Highly recommend this to better your playing and then some!

Wow.......
What a great piece of music. After you study this piece carefully you'll be amazed at the complexity and difficulty it presents. Much time and energy must be spent in order to play this piece to its full potential. Clashing chords, emotional musical phrases, and unlimited complexity makes this a masterful composition. Listen to as many recordings of this work as possible before studying it. Also, look up the german phrases in the music in order to better understand the meaning of the writing style. For example the last passage in the piece has a caption that translates to "all persons must die". Yes, this is one deep peice of music, and I reccomend it to anyone willing to put in the time and effort.

Powerful, Dense, Humbling
The Hindemith Sonata is an epic work for trumpet. This is not for the intermediate player! This is a dense work, and it takes great concentration, breath control, and endurance. The piano part is very difficult, and often the trumpet and piano are working against each other, which demands attention to detail. Anyone working on this piece should do so with diligence, and not arrogance. This is a work of music that will quickly humble even the strongest of players. -- This is why very few people actually perform, or record it. The final passage can, and will, break a player if he's not in awesome physical condition. -The Hindemith (pronounced with a hard T), is standard audition material at major conservatories.

Work needed to pull this one off!!!
This is one corrupted, but at the same time, very interesting piece!! I'm only in 10th grade, but am considered to be very talented in terms of music and trumpet, so if you're looking for a piece that greatly describes the chaos that was happening at the time it was written don't ever doubt this one! So try it out, it's a great, but yet very difficult, piece!! Ohh yeah... To play this you need one hell of a piano player (Chris O).
