a MUST-HAVE!
Anyone vaguely interested in the so-called golden age of popular song (now aka The Great American Songbook) must have this book. It has too many Walter Donaldson songs to count. Donaldson was, with Ray Henderson, the master of "popular" songs (as opposed to Broadway's self-conscious sophistication &/or elitism, even though some of the standards included here actually originated in Broadway shows). Beside eternal standards like "My Baby Just Cares For Me", "My Blue Heaven", the superb "Love Me Or Leave Me", "At Sundown" etc..lesser-known gems include "Out Of The Dawn", Clouds", "Maybe It's The Moon", "Did I Remember", Riptide". Oh and "I've Had My Moments" (copyright 1934) must have been Gershwin's secret inspiration for his own "A Foggy Day" (1937). Essential!
