The Virtuoso Pianist in 60 Exercises - Complete (Comb-Bound) (Complete). By Charles-Louis Hanon. Edited by Allan Small. For piano. Masterworks; Piano Collection. Alfred Masterworks Editions. Studies and Classical. Advanced; Early Advanced; Intermediate; Late Intermediate. Piano studies book (comb-bound). Standard notation, fingerings and introductory text. 127 pages. Published by Alfred Music Publishing (AP.616C).
ISBN 0739009400. With standard notation, fingerings and introductory text. Studies and Classical. 9x12 inches.
The most widely used piano technique book ever written, The Virtuoso Pianist was designed to develop agility and strength in all the fingers as well as flexibility of the wrists. Exercises are sequenced so that in each successive exercise, the fingers are rested from the fatigue caused by the previous one. Translated from the original French, this Masterwork edition includes the complete Exercises 1-60 and is clearly engraved for easy reading. Hanon's original introduction is included. He recommends that a student have at least one year of experience before starting this book.
A General MIDI disk is available separately (Item #5715). The disk contains varied styles of accompaniments including pop, classical and jazz for Exercises 1-20.

Great for all ages and abilities
It looks a little intimidating when you first open the cover, but it's a great resource for becoming comfortable at the piano. It recommends one year of piano study before starting these exercises, but there are a few in here that are so easy I've taught them to some of...

Awesome!
The book is a must for any pianist! It contains every scale, arpeggio, octave studies, thirds and everything else needed to keep a student in top technique form. Also love the binding of this book. It allows for easy page turning. I wish more technique/method books came with this same...

Hanon Comb-bound
Excellent edition - clear, comfortable for page turning... Exercises are simply - 1 pattern only in sequence... Can be put into different keys, add articulation, dynamics... Wonderful for finger facility. Highly recommended

Still learning after all these years
This collection of exercises is boring and some seem immeasurably frustrating as I play them again and again, BUT they work! I ordered these at the recommendation of a neigbor who studied at Juiliard, and now they are teaching my fingers to fly.

Not Really Spiral Bound
This edition is not actually spiral bound--it is comb bound, which is a cheap alternative in which the pages do not turn as easily and you can't turn them all the way to the back. For folks looking for real spiral binding, there's an edition by Polonius Sheet Music that...
