Mandalay, the cultural capital of Burma, was very seriously damaged by bombings of the Allied Forces during the Second World War. "The Road to Mandalay" has been a kind of oriental symbol, which was also used in literature, e.g. by Rudyard Kipling. Robie Williams made a song with the same name and in July 2000 it reached the top of the international hit parade. Afterwards, he used it as part of the soundtrack of his short movie picture "Rob by Nature.".
