excellent book
great book - the last song is the best. As performed by Myleene Klass on the Late Late show recently. The other songs are good for piano solo too.

Converting The Piano to another instrument
I love the music to The Piano and have been slowly converting it to something I can play on the nyckelharpa (a stringed instrument also known as a keyed violin.) This is not easy, but I am loving it. It is probably too advanced for me, but this music is making me stretch my abilities to produce something beautiful. I'd buy it again!

Very moving music
As I am just learning to play piano, but have an extensive background in music, I am looking forward to learning to play pieces from The Piano.

Not exactly what I expected
I thought I was getting the music to the soundtrack. This collection includes 3 pieces that are not on the soundtrack. In essence, you are only get 3 of the 19 songs on the soundtrack. However, I do love the 3 pieces that are from the soundtrack.

Relaxing music
Any pianist looking for only a "challenge" will be let down, but this music is wonderful to play on a relaxing evening. Note that the music has been simplified slightly from the film, but this does not take away from the beauty of the score. It's movie music, appreciate it for what it is, don't expect Liszt and you won't be unhappy.

It's not the exact score so why bother?
Where can competent pianists get a copy of the exact score from the film / CD? Anything other than the original score should be advertised as such. There would be uproar if Chopin was abridged to an easy version and this was not implicitly stated on the score! Easy-to-play versions make for musicians willing to settle for an inferior standard of performance: a cop-out.

Beautiful with Every Score
When listening or playing this song, you seem to evaporate into the sky and float with every note! It is a very tender song. This peice is a little hard, but when you finish it, it's worth while. It's certainly beautiful with every score.

Beautiful collection
The movie was great and the accompanying score is stirring. The piano music was an integral part of the movie and is faithfully adapted in this book. If you liked the soundtrack then you must buy this book. Favorite tracks were the main ones: Big My Secret & The Heart Asks Pleasure First, but the other that were less obvious will grow on you. The pieces are not incredibly difficult but may be challenging for beginning players. As stated in the writeup by Nyman, the pieces were written for a player not professionally taught, something that a intermediate player should pick up after a few practices. The theme is strong and a lot is up to interpretation (i.e. when I played Big My Secret for the first time, I could not remember what it was 'supposed' to sound from the movie. When watching the movie again, it sounded totally different than what I imagined). Great music!

Definitely a MUST HAVE!!!!
I loved "The Piano" and I was so thrilled when I saw that the piano score was available. I was not disappointed! The pieces were true to every note in the soundtrack. You can't help but fall in love with "Big My Secret" and "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" (the two main themes in the movie). There is also a short bio of Michael Nyman, so you can learn a bit more about the composer.

The Piano for Pianists.
A wonderful volume of Michael Nyman's memorable piano music from the movie. I didn't realize what impressive credentials Nyman has until I read the bio that is included. "Revisiting the Piano" is also very nice, although there are two songs that are in both books.
