brilliant collection
Henry Mancini was the honor of American film music. Unlike too many of his Hollywood peers (and that includes great names from the Golden and Silver Ages), he never forgot about melody, harmony, thrills and personality. Of course, some little-known gems are missing here, but to nitpick would be a joke: 89 themes are included, all in their original arrangements. Essential!

A Valuable Collection
I was very happy with the diverse collection of Henry Mancini songs. As a singer, I always appreciate learning songs that have not had the popularity (possibly due to under-marketing and/or movie exposure)that other more comercially successful songs have achieved.

The New Henry Mancini Songbook
Having just seen Monica Mancini in concert this songbook is just the thing for Mancini fans. As a guitarist I found the chord changes to be interesting and fun. The voicings are consistant with the recordings and bring out the airy nuances of the pieces. A thorough joy to any musician.

A real Gem
all the musical magic of Mancini are in this songbook. It is a joy to play through the many and varied mood/film music and to add rythms and backings.Althoughnot a criticism more interesting endings and turn-arounds would have completed this great book

First Rate In Every Respect
Most people are familiar with Mancini’s hits, songs like "The Days of Wine and Roses." But over the last few years, I’ve stumbled into some less well known Mancini songs that piqued my interest in his other work. So I ordered this book on a flier, and I couldn’t be happier. It contains all the huge hits as well as songs I’ve never heard before. Many of them are outstanding, and their distinctive aural quality is uniquely Mancini. His “jazz idiom” songs from the “Peter Gunn” and “Mr. Lucky” TV series are excellent, and “Harry’s Theme” has become one of my all time favorites. The book is well bound, it lies reasonably flat, and the engraving is good. Most songs are two or three pages long. I have rated this book “Advanced” not because it is Rachmaninoff, but because the sophisticated rhythms and unusual chord voicings will challenge many players. Still, dedicated intermediates can master these songs if they work at them, and the effort will be well rewarded.

Get to know Henry Mancini!
What a wonderful way to become acquainted with a musician: by playing his music. I have the impression that Henry is an old and dear friend after dipping into his music. He is romantic, capricious, surprising, and playful. Even in death, he has made my life richer. Thank you, Mr. Mancini!
