Beautiful
I'm a beginner, so it's a little hard, but for anyone who loves Lord of the Rings I think it's a great buy. The music is lovely, and at the back there's a flute fingering chart for anyone who needs to learn some new notes. There's also a CD. Overall, the music is really beautiful - I love it! Plus I'm crazy about Gandalf ;)

Great for beginner
My daughter is in her first year learning to play the flute and a big LOTR fan. When I presented her with this book she was so excited. So far she's learning the songs pretty well and it's fun to listen to her play these beautiful arrangements. Giving her options to choose from definitely has increased her daily practice time :o) I highly recommend this book.

Absolutely the best!
I have had so much fun playing the pieces in this sheet music book. I just started learning flute this year, and my teacher had to specially teach me E and A flat for this book. The hauntingly beautiful pieces that i remember from the movie are in this book - and i just dream the time away as i practice!

A great buy
I loved the music in the Lord of the Rings movies, and was delighted to find this book and CD. The demo and backing tracks are wonderful, with a variety of moods. I like the way that each piece is recorded with the backing track for each piece immediately after the demo track. You can listen first then play without having to use cd player controls. The music is not challenging for an intermediate flautist, but is enjoyable to play.

You won't be sorry if you purchase this!
This was a terrific book for flute players! The flute part is a lot of fun and uses the best parts of the score from "Lord of the Rings" to bring out the beauty of the flute. Hint: if you have any other instrumentalists in your house, purchase their book, too. We've had fun playing french horn and flute together on "Lord of the Rings."

Great Stuff!
I found this excellent, together with the CD. It is easy to practise accompanied by the flute and then easy to play when the flute has been removed. However, I would also like to have the lyrics printed whenever there are lyrics. Overall.... EXCELLENT! I play something from Lord of the Rings every day. Highly recommended as a teaching tool, especially helpful for "counting" time. There's a lot of syncopation throughout.... some difficult counting, but excellent for practising time. I am an amateur flute player and have played in an orchestra (mainly classical). I practised for 3 hours a day. I didn't play the flute for many years, but the Lord of the Rings brought me back and now I play every day.

Fantastic book in general!!
The CD is great as it gives a demo for each song as well as a play-along. The difficulty of the songs ranges so once you have got hold of the easier ones you can move on up to the more challenging ones. I would have liked some more songs that I heard from the movies that would have been good for flute but overall a really fun book.

Superb!
Was easily sight-read perfectly first time through the book by grade 7 flautist. Not overly difficult, would do for leisurely playing.

Fantastic!
There is a CD included so you can play with an orchestral accompaniment, both with the melody included and without--so you can play solo (2 versions for each song). The arrangments aren't terribly difficult, a little dumbed down in places, but lovely overall. Both slow and fast pieces.

Adequate but not amazing
As a flutist with nine years of experience, I found most of the arrangements in this solo book to be underwhelming. I absolutely love the music Shore composed for the LoTR soundtrack so I had high expectations. Regardless, most of the songs are decently arranged and most new flutists should find this satisfactory.

Amazing!!!
I orginally bought this book just for something to play on the side of doing marching band because that music can begin to get dull after playing it hundreds of times. But after playing it, I fell in love with it and after a while, my parents asked me why I continued to play this instead of my marching music. I just shrugged and smiled saying it was one of the best flute books I've ever picked up. It also was a lot easier than the marching music which gave my fingers and mind a break from playing at speeds that are nearly impossible. Good job Howard Shore on creating this music! I loved it!

Wow...
Howard Shore did a fantastic job when he re-created all the LOTR music for flute soloists, or other instruments... This book was amazing! I definetly recommend it to anyone of almost any age group. If you can't play it now, atleast put it away for later.

LOR Flute Solos w/CD
Before I received the music I really didn't know how good or bad it was going to be. I had never ordered this series before. When I received the music I was very pleased at how the arrangements were an excellent likeness to the actual songs, i.e. I can play the music and it sounds like the songs I want to hear. I have been playing the flute for many years but have not been quite as faithful in practicing in the recent years. Thus this level of music with the CD to demo the song really helped me. I am totally enjoying this purchase! (My boys also love LOR and are happy to hear the music being played by their mom.)

Great Book!!
Great Music from Howard Shore, and it is great fun to play. The Prophecy keeps you on your toes for accidentals, while you have to watch for a few high accidentals in Concerning Hobbits. (do not forget to look for cut time in Forth Eorlingas!) My only downside is that it was a bit too easy, even for a flautist of two years, or such was I when I first received the book. Perfect for any LotR loving Flautist!

EXCELLENT!
I love LOTR! This book may not be perfect, but it sure is really awesome! Some of the music is really difficult even for a person who has been playing for 5 yrs. I had some trouble, but I enjoyed it to the max! Whoever likes or LOVES LOTR will be satisfied by this book. It has many fun songs, and some pretty and mellow, edgey and sharp, or just right out our favorites. This is a SHOUTOUT to all the people who love and enjoy LOTR and playing the flute!! ENJOY!!!!

Just what the doctor ordered!
This is exactly what I wanted. I have just started playing again after 20 years and it is great to be able to play along with the CD to get some musical discipline back in the privacy of my own home!! Also the pieces sound great on the CD and you can really get into the music which brings back vivid memories of the moods of the movies.

Freakin' Sweet
This is an excellent book. The accompany gives you a demo of the song and lets you loose. The music itself is freakin' sweet. I can hear my mom in the kitchen asking me to play In Dreams for her and for everyone else who is in the house. I agree with the person wrote in June 2005

Few fun arrangements
There are only a few arrangements in this book that are fun solo pieces. In Dreams, Many Meetings, and Into the West are the only ones that I truly love. The others mainly have either too many half/whole notes or too many rests.

Its somthing you can hum along to. When you play it... you feel like you really know the peice and the movies. "Rohan" is a good one, And I LOVE "Forth Eorlingas and March of the Ents" is awsome too. I really like playing with the CD to. I have totally mastered Rohan and Minas Tirith also. I loved it so much i played for Christmas for my family.

Amazing. . .
I enjoy flipping through the pages and playing the pieces. It has a wide range of difficulty. Some pieces easy, some a bit difficult. I've learned a lot from practicing these pieces. I definently like how you can first play solo with the flute, and then the next track allows you to play with all other instruments, giving and orchestra type feel. A must have for Flute players.

Good Music!!
I am not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan out there, but this book is absolutely a joy to play from. It's not a hard book, so it's perfect for the beginning flutists who have been playing for at least three years.

2 stars for efort....
I've read the other reveiws about this book, and I have noticed that they were all made by band teachers; hmm, interesting... I personally found this book to be a let down. #1 - no solos. I expected that there would be some of Galway's solos in here, but no: they just re-wrote the themes for flute. #2 - the different volumes do not jibe. My oldest sister plays violin, and we had been playing together out of the piano book for somethime, when I saw that these editions had come out. When we tried to play together (because you're supposed to be able to do that) we found that most of the peices were in different keys, even though the flute and violin are in the same key. In short, I suggest this (and all others in this series) only to band leaders. For those who are looking to play for pure enjoyment, go buy the piano/vocalist book - it offers far more choices.
