There's one roulade she can't sing....
As the cover photo suggests, this book is goofy. Replicating Steely Dan is enormously difficult. Don't expect to be Fagen after thumbing through this book. Haitian Divorce, Josie, Peg and Rikki Don't...(honestly, reasonably close) actually sound something like the originals although I can't speak to the authenticity of the keys. Essentially, it's a lot of simple chords and fifths with enough original embellishments to be recognizable, but I wouldn't really play it around any serious musicians and some of it (Bodhisattva, Reelin' In The Years, Turn That Hearbeat...) I wouldn't even dabble with -- they're just too disappointing. As an introductory resource it's ok, but, know that's exactly what it is before buying. It would be very interesting to hear what Becker and Fagen's thoughts on this.
