Great Book for Scales
This book is great because it has all the scales, arpeggios, etc. The vast content available is good for practicing something for a piece.

The Complete Book of Scales, Chords, ...
I had a book similar to this one years ago, which was unsalvagable from water damage. Glad to "have it back"!

Very Advanced
As an adult late learner I found the book to offer answers to questions I had not thought to ask. But if answers the purpose for which it was purchesed. I am using it in conjunction to a music theory text to advanced my learn rate.

Book of Scales,Chords,Arpeggios & Cadences
I love this one myself! My students are just being intro'd to these, and enjoy the presentation of each area. Good for long-term use--a necessary addition to any music/piano reference library.

good for older students
I was surprised to see so much bonus content (above the basic major scales), but due to all the extras, it IS a great reference, even for experienced or "stuck" players who needs new ideas. I think it is a little "old" for children and is better suited to older teens and adults. I'd like to see some simple songs in each key.

As an adult beginner studying piano, I found the book to be lucid, a good source of exercises, and an excellent complement to my piano lessons.

Nice reference manual
I use this for reference. It is very nice to have this type of manual. Every player should have something like this (and probably others) on their reference shelf.

Good older beginner supplimental book
I purchased this book as one of three books required for a beginners course for non music majors at the local university. The book gives clear and concise instructions related to playing scales, chord progressions and arpeggios, to serve as building blocks for further piano studies. As a text to the basics, I doubt it can be topped. Starting with the basics and the "C" scale, the books progresses to more challenging scales and exercises while providing the correct fingering patterns for each. A great help in converting a lifetime wind player to a keyboard player at my age 60+.

Best intro to scales so far
I teach voice but encourage students to develop piano skills in order to more easily learn music theory and sightreading. This book is an excellent, concise introduction to basic scales, arpeggios, inversions and the good old I, IV, I, V7, I progression, also presented in different inversions, which I really like. The layout and material is not intimidating, and appropriate for all ages.

in search of a companion book
This is an invaluable book. The authors ought to be commended for putting together theory of music and practical aspects of the keyboard in such a clear and explicit way in this short discourse. I wonder, is there a companion book to this monograph with exercises, preferably pieces of classic music, or anything of the kind to supplement it? My question is addressed to anybody, authors and publisher as well. Constantin

TECHNIQUE AND TONALITY.
This is an excellent technical, theoretical reference and practical resource for drawing together all the information beginners and intermediate students receive regarding scale structures as they progress through the various primers. Logically laid out,in discrete key packages, it allows for immediate access to individual musical scale/key facts. Additional textual information relating to the various scale forms and other pitch organisation is clearly, progressiviely and logically presented. An excellent reference, valuable for students not only as a scale manual, but as a complete theoretical resource through to advanced level.

I don't need to stay after school to learn music
It's been a long time since I attended school but this book tells it in easy to understand English. Even the music books in school were, shall I say, user unfriendly. I'm happy with my purchase and can look forward to understanding what I'm playing. Boy. my ear love's it too. Thank you DS

Just what I need to better my playing. Would not practice this when I was learning some years ago. But now I would like to start climb- ing up the ladder a little more.

Clear explanations of theory and techniques
This book is user friendly! Visually the material is spread out so you can easily read it. Music theory is clearly explained and understandable for an intermediate pianist. All the scales, arpeggios, chords, etc. are in there. Really worth your money if you are a serious amateur piano player!

Must-have
This is a must-have. It explains everything pertaining to scales, chords, etc. My piano teacher told me that one great pianist said, "You say you're good at piano? Show me your scales." It's true, and this book will help you a WHOLE LOT.

an absolute must have
This book was recommended to me and I must say it was the best purchase I've made in a while. Alfred's books are great for the beginner adult and if you are an accomplished musician, this book is a great reference book. It combines every scale, major and minor, along with other exercises in one book. This is an absolute must have for anyone. Trust me - go out and get this book for your music library TODAY.
