The Case of the Missing Parts of Speech Director's Score w/Reprod. Parts. Shawnee Press. 40 pages. Shawnee Press #UD0007. Published by Shawnee Press (HL.35002965).

The Case of the Missing Part of Speech is an intriguing mystery with humor and songs that has performance-proven appeal to elementary school students. It may be performed before audiences or read and sung in the classroom as part of a Language Arts unit on the parts of speech. Three principle roles-Detective Hargraves; Hector, the Bloodhound; and professor McMertrue-speak and sing solos. The investigators, working for the Tracers of Lost Parts of Speech Agency (any number of students), also speak and sing as well as provide humorous motions. Any size class or cast can act in supporting roles as the eight parts of speech. Costumes, scenery, and props are kept to a minimum and the entire cast is on stage during the whole play, eliminating the need for backstage supervision.

Wonderful

All three of my kids performed in this play over the years. The oldest two have found themselves singing the songs to themselves in high school English classes to remind themselves of the rules of grammar. Well worth the effort!

Searching forever

I've been searching for this script FOREVER, and even tracked down my elementary school music teacher to try and find it (unsuccessfully.) I played the dog in 4th grade, and remember the lyrics to every song. My class of 5th graders is going to love this!

best grammar teacher ever

Performing this musical with my classmates YEARS ago, I can honestly say it was the best grammar teacher I ever had. I became an English teacher myself and still refer to the catchy songs when in doubt! This musical was fantastically designed to be both fun and unforgettably educational. I...

When I was in 5th grade...I was in this play at my school. To this day I still refer back to a particular song when I have a grammar dilemma! Being in this little musical is one of my fondest school memories! I remember my parents talking about it for...
