The Cajun Fiddle by Craig Duncan. For Fiddle. Solos. Cajun-Zydeco. Intermediate. Book/CD Set. 102 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc (MB.95383BCD).
ISBN 9780786631391. Cajun-Zydeco. 8.75" x 11.75" inches.
Beginning with a section of easy arrangements of popular Cajun tunes, this book progresses to more difficult solos based on the playing of various fiddlers including Dewey Balfa, Michael Doucet, Doug Kershaw, and Rufus Thibodeaux. Cajun stylings, rhythms, double stops, slides, turns and trills, bowings, and tunings are discussed throughout the book. Fiddle and guitar are used in demonstrating the tunes in this book. The recorded versions are played at a slower tempo than typical performance speed to allow the listener to pick out details of the Cajun style. Due to the 1 hour capacity of a CD a few of the tunes in the book had to be omitted from the companion recording included in this package (songs are Eunice Two-Step, J'Ai Vu Le Loup, Je Va T'Aimer Quand-Meme, Johnny Peut Pas Danser, Le Vieux Boeuf Et Le Vieux Charriot, Les Veuves De La Coulee, Ninety-Nine Years Waltz, Quo Faire, Vieux Crowley).

The Cajun Fiddle Book/CD set
This set is very well done in that it usually has at least two iterations of each tune, with one being more elementary for less experienced or gifted musicians, such as myself. The print is clear and easy to read and the font used for the actual music is also...

Found this very helpful. I was looking for a song to perform at a New Orleans theme picnic. The easy and double stop version of Jolie Blon was the main reason for the purchase. However, I found that I really like most of the songs in this book. Yes, some...

The Cajun Fiddle Book
Excellent book the CD is very helpful for those who don't know the tunes or have trouble with the timing. I also like the fact the double stops are all shown, the problem with some books is the bare melody is there and you have to work out your own...

A fantastic introduction to playing cajun fiddle
This is a superb book.... but not for the beginner. The pieces are brilliantly scored, and the accompanying cd is a delight to play along with. There are a huge number of songs here, starting reasonably simply, and progressing through to the more difficult tunes. Great explanations of who played...
