Clearly written, concise music theory guide

I bought this book to help my 8-year old daughter (a violin student) learn music theory. It is clearly written yet a very compact, concise book on theory. It clarifies many of the concepts which an instrumentalist doesn't usually get explained in an instrument lesson. We use the Music Theory in Practice series of books along with this guide. They are also very well done.

Well-Written and Accessible

I am an advanced pianist and vocalist, having over 30 years experience in music, so I certainly have been working with music theory for a long time! However, I have always felt that my understanding of musical theory was like a puzzle, where the main picture was in view, but the background was not there - it was incomplete. This fills in the gaps and helps complete the "picture". Be aware that this is written from a European perspective; that is, many concepts are named differently for US musicians.
