The work is divided into six sections opening with a lively description of Samson himself. It explains his enormous strength and outlines his prowess on the field of battle. Highlights of the cantata include the scene in a barber's shop, with a background of snipping scissors. This is followed by a splendid music-hall song in which the whole audience can join!
