Great Metohod for the beginner and up

I am a 60 yr. young player who bought this book in 1965 and paid $3.95 for is.I haven't played for 10yrs and I recently started playing with a jazz group.I was rely rusty.I went and found my Buddy Rich book and this one and started to train again. This book has done wonders for me.I love it.My chops are coming back.Make sure to read and thoroughly absorb what the author says in the preface. This book is great for the beginner and great for the seasoned player.Take the time to practice,IT PAYS OFF IN THE END.

Great method for all ages

I have personally used this book from the first year onwards. I am a professional now, but it's still one of my priorities. It provides great practice-ideas, something like LH Stevens MOM for marimba. You can read it and follow it literally if you are a beginner, or you can invent you own exercises. Very good purchase for all ages/levels

A must have

For any level, you can make it as hard on yourself as you want. It looks a bit boring but so are tone ladders to other instruments I guess. Stick control really improves your command of the sticks. Not only for snare drummers, but also on a kit.

Requires dedication but will not dissapoint

If you have the focus to spend one hour a day with this book, you will definitely see an improvement, no matter your skill level. The exercises familiarize you with so many different rhythmic combinations that almost nothing feels "weird" to play anymore. Boosts confidence and skill. One thing, be familiar with formal drum technique before you buy this, because there is very little in the way of explanations. Example, if you don't know what a flam or a double-stroke roll is, learn it beforehand. Overall very very highly recommended.

The Bible!

Next to Ted Reed's "Syncopation", this book should be in every drummer's library!

This is the main book of drumming

Delevops hand speed and coordination through repetition. After you finish this book you will have your hands. Play the patterns on different sound sources. Throw in the feet on 2 and 4. This doesn't have to get boring. Become creative with the rudimental patterns and add accents to spice it up.

The Most Important Drum Book EVER

If you could only have one drum book in your collection, THIS WOULD BE IT. The beauty of it is in it's simplicity: Very basic lines of notation are repeated for an entire page or more. But underneath each line is a sequence of hand combinations which vary line by line, even though the note values remains the same. Your job is to make each line sound like the previous one, regardless of which hand your using, or what volume or tempo you're playing at. By forcing you to concentrate on playing an even sound, you develop power, finess and as the title suggests, better control over your sticks. It has limitless applications, from absolute beginner to the most advanced. It can be use as the author instructs, or as a 'code' book for more complex snare and drum set patterns. I cannot stress enough how useful this book is. Just know that many exercise books have been written based on a few various lines in this book.
