Sleep. (SATB). By Eric Whitacre (1970-). For Choral (SATB DV A Cappella). Walton Choral. Choral. Sacred. Difficulty: medium. Octavo. 12 pages. Walton Music #WJMS1035. Published by Walton Music (HL.8501462).
From the composer of the much performed Cloudburst, here is a new collaboration between Eric Whitacre and poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, drawing on the mystical moment between awareness and sleep. While the voice range is accessible, Sleep requires a big enough choir to handle the divisi passages. First premiered at the 2001 ACDA National Convention by the Concordia College Choir, Rene Clausen conductor.

This piece is one of the best examples of perfect chord progressions. The tenor and bass voices are simply stunning, and the alto and soprano parts tie the rest of the theme together beautifully. Though it takes a lot of talent to perform it, it is simply extraordinary.

SPIVEY HALL!
The VERY FIRST time I ever laid eyes AND ears on this song, I was absolutely stunned!! It is SO beautiful and you really do need a VERY strong choir to sing this song. I was very fortunate enough to sing this song at Spivey Hall @ Clayton State Univ....
