Selections from Der Rosenkavalier - A Master Class with Evelyn Lear (Voice and Piano). By Richard Strauss (1864-1949). Edited by Evelyn Lear. Vocal Large Works. G. Schirmer #ED3755. Published by G. Schirmer (HL.50488456).

Including critical commentary, interpretative insights, and a new translation for study. Evelyn Lear has probably graced the stage in more performances of Der Rosenkavalier than any other artist in history. Her rare versatility has allowed her the unique distinction of having performed the three principle roles of Sophie, Octavian and Marschallin in a career that spans more than three decades. Always known for her intelligent and perceptive performances, Miss Lear has turned author to share her insights into Strauss' most famous opera in a “master class” presentation of favorite selections from the score. Includes: Newly edited engravings of the music • fresh scenic, dramatic and vocal interpretations • character analyses • extensive coaching commentary inserted into the score, relative to the emotional context of the dramatic situation • a new literal English translation for study • many photos illustrating scenes from the opera • 152 pages of all major scenes (including the famous “magical trio”).
