Ragtime was written while on a summer vacation in Vermont in 1977. I kept the form of Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag and basically poured out Joplin’s music and then poured mine back in. It is possible to play this piece at the same time as the Maple leaf Rag for a special blockbuster effect. Drake Mabry, eclectic composer and painter, studied composition with John Cage and Krysztof Penderecki, has lived in the U.S., France and Turkey, and currently plays the ney flute and paints using the ancient Turkish technique ebru.
