Virtuoso pianist and composer Yvar Emilian Mikhashoff was born in Troy, NY, on March 8, 1941. He was a champion of contemporary music (from 1983 to 1991 he commissioned no fewer than 127 tangos for solo piano from 127 composers). Yvar Mikhashoff died in Buffalo, NY, on October 11, 1993.

An operatic sonata-fantasy for solo piano in four parts, on themes from Puccini's Madame Butterfly.

Contrairement aux trois autres partitions de Mikhashoff disponibles chez Peters (Trittico, Tosca de Puccini, Casta Diva de Norma de Berllini), celle-ci est manuscrite. Malgré le côté "émouvant" d'y voir la main de l'auteur, on ne peut nier que cela rend la transcription très difficile à déchiffrer.

AWESOME WORK - BUT EDITION IS HAND-WRITTEN

This is a great compilation of many themes from Madame Butterfly. It is a very advanced piano solo transcription of the themes woven together. The Peters edition is hand-written notes, perhaps by the composer and it it very hard to read in places as notes, notations, incidentals are crowded together....
