Piano Concerto A minor Op. 16 (2 Pianos, 4 Hands). By Edvard Grieg (1843-1907). Edited by Einar Steen-Nökleberg. 2 Pianos, 4-hands. Henle Music Folios. Pages: VII and 63. SMP Level 10 (Advanced). Softcover. 63 pages. G. Henle #HN719. Published by G. Henle (HL.51480719).

Grieg's celebrated Piano Concerto turns out to be an editor's nightmare. Even during the composer's lifetime the work was so famous that it had to be reprinted over and over again, each time with revisions from the composer. A detailed preface throws light into the mare's nest of the sources. Einar Steen-Nokleberg, equally well-known for his complete recording of Grieg's piano music, has judiciously revised the piano reduction to make it more playable.

Errors in this edition

Although I adore Henle editions (especially for Beethoven) this edition of the Grieg piano concerto has several errors in it. Not the Best for this Work

I am a huge Henle fan. I almost always choose that edition over all others. But for Grieg's works, it makes no sense to spend that amount of money. Grieg published his works, edited by Grieg himself, with C F Peters. Those editions are significantly less expensive than Henle. How...

Henly is THE best

Um, I totally agree with the other review, and my piano teacher from Julliard almost always recommends the Henly edition. It's my favorite too.

HENLE IS ONE OF THE BEST.

Henle is just fantastic, hands down. Very clean, and easy to read without the editing that a lot of other publishers do to music. The other thing that is really great is the quality of the paper. It has a particular cream color and a thick texture that does not...
