Oboe Classics For The Advanced Player. For Oboe. Instrumental Solo Part and CD. Published by Music Minus One (MO.MMOCD3413).
ISBN 1596153601.
Virtuoso Douvas of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra continues the Oboe Classics series with these wonderful advanced-level solos on oboe. These cover the range from Baroque (Handel) to Twentieth Century Modernism (Hindemith), and includes two virtually unknown Romantic Era 'Solos de Concert' by Stanislas Verroust. A magnificent collection and a tremendous opportunity to advance to the highest levels of achievement. As a special bonus, this album includes a separate book containing the rare piano accompaniments to the Verroust 'Solos de Concert.'
Includes a complete solo part printed on high-quality ivory paper, annotated with performance suggestions and a compact disc with complete versions (with soloist) followed by piano accompaniments to each piece, minus the soloist. Also includes a bonus book of piano accompaniments to the Verroust Solos de Concert.

Incredible
This series is incredible. Ms. Douvas is quite open about how she disagrees with the titles of the MMO series. Rather than naming them Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, she likes to call them "Encores," "Advanced" and "Professional." The recordings are gems.

A better review.
I have always liked Douvas' tone quality. Very rich and lush. Unlike a more traditional English tone (usually more reedy), and possibly not ideal for baroque style. The value of her instructional approach probably depends on ones own previous teaching but I have found it usful.

Awful Playing
Talking down to your possible customers is not going to sell. Most oboists will have come across the Verroust. Standard of performance really should be improved before making any more recordings. How much rehearsal time? Maybe more might be helpful.
