O Che Felice Giorno - Choir II Score by Giovanni Gabrieli (1553-1612). For SATB voices. Early Music Library. Choral or Vocal Music. Choir 2 Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.EML0208-02).
Gabrieli's impressive O che felice giorno is taken from the Gardane anthology Dialoghi Musicali de diversi eccellentissimi autori a Sette, Otto, Nove, Dieci, Undeci and Dodeci Voci, published in Venice in 1590. Its strength and rhythmic charm derive from its excellent word-setting. A particularly unusual effect is the imitation of bagpipes in the triple section, with a sustained drone that results in quite unconventional but charming harmonies.
