accurate vs inaccurate

This book does have some mistakes as many texts do: in the song "In Bloom" my version (which may be pre-revised) shows B5 in the chord and the tab shows Bb5 instead) since the transcriber forgot to change the flats the software automatically puts in the chord. However, the people saying that the bridge in "Smells like Teen Spirit" is wrong are not correct- the bridge is fine- there are other notes in there (bass) that cover what the guitar is playing. When the bass plays a C the E5 in the guitar part starts to sound like Cmaj7. This is pretty clever harmonically and those that say the music is dead simple don't appreciate the skills that went into this music. These are great songs, well written and the album's production is terrific.

VERY GOOD

I found this book very accurate. The tabs are correct except for a small mistake here and there. BUT I was able to play some of Nirvana's best songs thanks to this tab book. Some songs might take a day or two to completely figure out but it overall makes you a great guitar player.

GOOD

Great for beginner/advanced players I found maybe a couple small mistakes in the music. Better than the Incesticide transcription. Definitely more accurate than the FREE tabs online! BUY IT SUPPORT AND LIVE ON KURT'S LEGACY! BTW these idiots saying Nirvana is a "Bass band" and "these songs use a lot of effects" is such bs!They don't know what they are talking about, SLTS uses NO effects besides the solo. 99% of the music is CLEAN/DISTORTED guitar. if it does NOT sound right then YOUR NOT playing it right! People think a song sounds better on CD because he used "effects/better effects" FALSE. Theyre just not playing it 100% right. Been playing for 15 years thats exactly what I used to think "maybe he used some effect" no just not playing it right! Thats why it PAYS to learn SHEET MUSIC and NO tabs! Tabs cant teach a song perfectly like rhythm, sustain, bends/slides, etc. It just tells you what notes to hit. The rest has to be memorized by track

nevermind

Yeah, the person who wrote Nirvana is a bass band is very mistaken. I can only think of about 2 Nirvana songs that were more bass oriented-Come As You Are and Lithium. But, great tabs, except a tad off. And to the person who wrote Kurt Cobain was one of the most influential guitarists of all time, I agree that Cobain was a fairly decent guitarist, but he will be remember to most of the world as an extremely revolutionary lyricist. Let the music of Nirvana live forver!

Great record, Great band, Weak Book

The authors were terribly sloppy with this book. For instance the intro to "Come as You are" is wrong. "Smells like Teen Spirit" is a bit off and several other songs are done in a more complicated manner than in their actuality. Kurt favored Drop D tuning and down a half step tuning so seeing other harder tunings is just absurd

A lot of things to clear up!

Like most other people said, NIRVANA IS NOT A BASS BAND (although it does make it sound really good). I got this book 2 years ago when i didn't even know how to hold a guitar and now i'm doing Hendrix with ease (I'm in no way saying that I am close to his genius, i only play his songs). What I'm trying to say is that the book was very inspirational and even though people say that it's "overrated" it doesn't make it any less great. Of course there are glitches, I mean just by watching Teen Spirit video you can tell that the verse line is played on the G and B not the B and E, but don't complain about it like the other guys, just fix it. Just buy it, learn it, and enjoy it. Nirvana comes from within!

Great album guy

This is for the tab book. Not all tab books are right, hell, a lot of the times they're wrong. It's no big deal, but they're not always right. Especially the Matchbox 20 tab books and their out of place capos... And the people that said nirvana is a bass band, you're dumber than the other two. A nirvana song sounds like a nirvana song. Guy who said it bass parts are based on guitar chords, you're right, and In Bloom proves it

total waste of money

With music as dirt simple as this, you might as well just learn it some other way. Perhaps if the book were perfectly accurate, there'd be an argument for getting it, but it isn't. In two or three places, the guitar parts are dead wrong, the guy didn't even bother to transcribe a couple things he should have, and a lot of the prescribed fingerings are just plain dumb. Even right after I bought this book 5 years ago, I could tell it was mediocre. "In Utero," AIC's "Facelift," and Soundgarden's "Superunknown" are similar, but infinitely superior books for novice players.

Bah...

This is a great album, and a very easy one to play. All Nirvana is easy to play, but this book makes it a lot harder than it actually is. There are many unusual chords in this book that I'm sure Kurt never used.

Great book!!

This is a great book. There are some awesome riffs to learn from this book that aren't very hard. Most of the songs are full of rakes. There are also some pretty easy solos that sound really cool in here too.

exceptional

This is an exceptional tab book, except for the beginning of some songs and parts where they transcribe the bass into a guitar part. Nirvana, by the way, is definitely not a bass band. Kurt is one of the most influential guitarists of all time, and the book has some awesome riffs...get it.

Eh

First off all, this is a great book with the exceptions of an few songs such as the "Come as You Are" intro (they just make it harder) and "In Bloom" and some minor things here and there but other wise its a great book and i suggest you get it. Make sure you learn "Polly" cause its the greatest song. Peace and have fun learning the songs!

definately maybe

Other reviewers are right, Nirvana is not a bass band, and yes, Kurt used many effects in S.L.T.S, but all can be created by tweaking with the amp. Some parts of the book are dodgy however

a lot of things to clear up

I wrote the review that is titled "could have been better" and I still stand by that. One of the things that I want to clear up is that Nirvana is NOT A BASS BAND! The guy that wrote that is obviosly a bass freak and has no idea what he is talking about. I can play all the bass lines for Nirvana songs and mostly it's the roots of guitar chords, so it can't possibly a bass band. Secondly, the book is not 100% accurate, just notice the rhythm mistake in "Teen Spirit'"s bridge or intro of "Come As You Are". To this day the "In Utero" book is still the best and most accurate. I highly recommend it -- it really captures the real Nirvana style of playing and song writing.

The Other Reviews are Wrong!

This book is 100% accurate despite what the other reviewers said. If it's inaccurate then why does it have a note of autehnticity. This book sounds identical to the record, but Kurt used numerous effects so it may be hard to duplicate his sound. Nirvana is not a bass band. The songs sound perfect!

nirvana is a bass band

The cd is amazing but i heard that it is the the worst book, because nirvana uses a lot of bass , the reason that it won't sound good is because the main parts are for the bass, it requires all of the parts to sound good, if you play the bass it is a very good one to get

could have been better

The album might be one of the best but the book sure wasn't. It made Nirvana songs seem so complicated while they are not. The birdge for "Smells like teen spirit" is way off and the intro for "Come as you are" is even worse. There are also some little mistakes in other songs. Still is a pretty valuable book to own. It pretty much sets the basis for all Nirvna songs.
