Great Book (but not a great CD)

When I opened this book of my brothers and started using it, I thought that it was amazing. Possible the best BOOK out there, actually. It didn't spend any time teaching me about notation, (You'd need the Berklee Method Books for that) but instead gave me all the tools needed to dive right in. The book was really well put together, and the CD samples also sounded really amazing, but I had one MAJOR problem with it; WHAT GOOD IS A RECORDING TO PLAY ALONG WITH IF THERE IS NO METRONOME COUNT-OFF BEFORE THE ACTUAL PLAYING?! I found playing a lot of simpler songs in the book difficult when accompanied by the CD because it was almost impossible to start evenly with the recording without a click track at the beginning. Metal Lead Guitar Primer didn't have this problem, so WHY did they decide to remove the metronome for THIS book?

Excellent

Awesome book, Is very easy to follow and it actually makes perfect sense, it teaches you the things you really need to know and how to do it correctly. The cd is excellent because every example is played by Troy himself so you know exactly how everything should sound. This book is great for anyone, pick it up.

Very Cool

This book is the best! It shows you different techniques like artifical harmonics and whammy bar effects. Whats cool is throughout the book there are 6 transcribed killer solos with backing band played once with lead and one without on the cd and before that there are different exercises and examples that are later put together into the solo. Definitely get this book, you won't be disappointed! Very NICE

Heavy Metal Madness!!!

I bought the primer (The first book in this series) and also this book.I've been playing for years,(self taught) but was never able to learn "harmonics" or "tapping" on my own. This book taught me how to do both in just one day! Now I'm playing the lead to "Panama" (Van Halen) note-for-note,and am ordering the "Van Halen Guitar Anthology Series" next, only because Troy's books prepared me to be able to actually play like Eddie Van Halen. The fact is.If Heavy Metal music is your favorite style of music. Then these books were made just for you.Get ANY book by Troy Stetina (especially this one) and you will NOT be disappointed.I guarantee it!!!...

Troy Stetina is a true master

Heavy metal lead guitar vol 1 is a perfect primer for lead guitar vol 2.This book has 171 examples and six solos. What I love about this book is that Troy makes this book fun and challenging,so if you want to learn how to play early intermediate solos, scales, modes and theory this is the book for you.
