Lord of The Rings Fan
I loved the movies, and I love being able to play all the music on the piano. I also like being able to sing along with some of the songs. It is really cool, and really sounds like a professional is playing in your house.

Would like some additions.
I really love Lord of the Rings (Books, Movies, Soundtrack and all) so naturally I had to get this music! In this book I particularly like "In Dreams", "Lament for Gandalf", and "May it Be". I like the others too, just not as much. I feel like there is something missing from this book as the other two Lord of the Rings piano/chords/vocals books have more and longer pieces included. I would have loved to see "Concerning Hobbits" and all of "The Breaking of the Fellowship" as these are my two favourites from the soundtrack as well as the other songs I listed. Overall I think this book is an excellent buy for anyone who is a fan of the movies or soundtrack:)

A bit sad
I love the Lord of the Rings movies and soundtracks. I am also a huge Enya fan, which is primarily why I bought this book (for her song "May It Be"). I dont know if it's because the soundtrack is not conducive to a piano solo book or what, but the book was a great disappointment. Not really worth buying.

Fairly easy but great for LOTR fans
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring sheet music is great for a LOTR fan, and is for the most part very easy to learn and play. Certain songs are more difficult than others, and the songbooks has a great song selection. They are fairly easy because the songs are coming from songs that are meant to be played by a full orchestra. Great quality pages/book too!

does not include main theme
I ordered this book for one of my piano students, and he was very disappointed in it because it didn't contain any music he recognized! He was hoping to play the main theme from the movie, and I had assumed that would be included. It is not.

Why is In Dreams one of the popular selections for Grade 8 piano pieces? It seems way too easy compared to conservatory music.

Someplace to Start
The song selection is lacking a bit, but if you're looking for just something to play fom the Lord of the Rings, it's great. Some songs are harder than others. It's a book that gives some idea on the music, someplace to start. I never got passed beginner and I was able to teach myself most of these songs...

Not good enough
Although Howard Shore is, in my opinion, the best composer out there, the arrangers dissapointed me with their puny renditions. I had hoped for some quality scores to play for enjoyment--something at least at the intermediate level. I hope that there is or will be a REAL piano SOLO score out there for pianists.

Enthralling!
This is one amazing sheet-music book! The song are beautiful, and make me want to watch the "Lord of the rings" movies all over again... If you like a little challenge in music, try this well-done sheet-music

Teachers beware!
I bought this book to share with my piano students but was greatly disappointed. The arrangers broke some of the cardinal rules of composition and arrangement, using hollow chords (5ths as chord roots, etc.) and needlessly over-simplified accompaniments. Teachers beware! If you want a quality arrangement of these songs, I suggest writing one for private use yourself. I'm a little surprised that Alfred agreed to publish this given their reputation for quality. I hope that a piano solo book is released soon (hopefully arranged by real pedagogues) as this book is disappointing overall.

I liked this ,but agree with the other that there are some songs that should have been in there but were missing. But the songs that are in there are very well written and are very beautiful and I love them all.I recommend it to any one.

Meh......
I'm a big LotR fan, (movies, books, music, all of it) and i started piano about a year ago, but I must say, looking at the tracklist is quite disappointing....some of the best songs on that soundtrack are excluded, including Concerning Hobbits, The Ring Goes South, Journey in the Dark, and the whole of Breaking of the Fellowship. Length shoudn't be a problem considering they gave The Return of the King a ten-minute song, so they could spare a seven-minute one. It boggles me mind....but I give it 4 stars because of the songs that ARE on there, they are arranged pretty well...

Too Much Choir & Not Enough Piano
Great soundtrack, but bad sheet music. It seems the publisher thought they would appeal to the masses by focusing on the vocal selections of the soundtrack. Most people that enjoy soundtracks buy them for the instrumental songs. Unfortunately, just about every song in this books has 3 staves and includes choir arrangements. Maybe this is nice for schools that want to sing the songs in choir, but for the average person that wants to sit down and play nice piano solos, this doesn't work to well. The Prophecy song is a good example of this and does not even match the recording. But worst of all the Isengard theme (the main evil theme) is not included. That is like publishing a book of Star Wars music and not including the Imperial March. So I hope they release another book that is for PIANO SOLO and includes better songs.

Best of the Trilogy
This book is the best of the trilogy. It contains most of the songs in the movie. The music is simple but still sounds great. There is also some challenge provided in Many Meetings and Aniron.

~*~HOTT~*~
i borrowed this book from my friend and even though i play the clarinet i was able to translate the music.i agree with the other reviews and that it was a little too simplified and that it should of had more music in it from the movie and stuff but if you're just beginning it is a hot book to take a look at. also i think that this music compliments the movies and books a lot and i should kno i read the books five times so far, once you read them it's really hard to stop, because they are soo good!!

Great but Simple
The music is really good for beginners. It's a bit too simplified, and I was a bit disappointed because it didn't have Isengard in it.

Comment on the Commentaries
I really appreciated all the comments when buying this particular music. I too am a devotee of LOTR and can't wait for them to come out with some more just piano solo music for it. Wish Dan Coates would put out his versions. That would be great. Thanks again for being honest. Decided to buy it and add more. Just to have the themes will be great.

Good, but missing some things...
I loved the music, but the price seemed a little expensive. I would really like a little more of the Khazad-dum music too, and "Anarion" didn't seem very necsesary... The left hand did slack off a bit, but overall it's a great book. I'd like a bit more advanced of a book also, some of the songs had parts where it souded a bit blank.

very good
this is a great book. it has most of the main songs from the movie and all of them are nicely arranged. the only things i would change: it doesn't includ "concerning hobbits", the bass line is slightly over-simplified as well as some of the songs. but overall it is definatly a good buy.

Can't complain
Overall, I LOVED this book. I do wish, however, that there was more songs from the soundtrack on it...even if they're just short clips. $14.95 is quite expensive for the few songs in it. By the way, this music is great for church organ preludes. I play quietly before Mass and our congregation loves it.

Matter of Opinion
Personally, I thought this piece was too simple, but that is probably because I have played the piano for several years. If you are a beginner, or an intermediate player, then this would probably be a good selection for you. If you are buying this for vocal: I, for one, was disappointed because the accompaniment was very simple, and didn't make the pieces as interesting as they could be. But you also have to consider that most arrangements have to be distorted to fill in all of the instruments in the orchestra that originally played it. But overall, I think this was an enjoyable piece for leisure, and, like most things, it is just a matter of your expertise, and your opinion. Hope this helped!!!

A Little Info To Complainers
I agree totally with me from grand rapids. How could you complain. I mean, you can't have everything. Maybe for "Concerning Hobbits" they had too many instruments going at the same time on the treble clef, and if you took one instrument out, it wouldn't be the same song anymore. Also, the Khazadum music is mainly drums, and I don't think that that would be easy to translate onto the piano. So, next time you look at music, look a little closer at what you're buying.

"In Dreams" = "Concerning Hobbits"
For those looking for the "Concerning Hobbits" theme, "In Dreams" is almost the same song, although the rhythmn is a little off. With a little ear you should be able to fill in the Concerning Hobbits rhythmns and variations; I especially like the jaunty fiddle. What some people call "too easy," I think of as lazy and rushed transcription. There are too many places where the left hand should have been the lower brass counter harmonies, but were instead single notes, and Shore's trademark harmony chord changes and resolutions are lost. C'mon! Take advantage of Shore's brillaint scoring and put something more complex in the left hand. I am rather unhappy that the music for "the Prophesy" was in the collection (doesn't match the movie), while "The Breaking of the Fellowship" (#17 on the soundtrack) is missing entirely. Nor do I think the music is worth the price.

Even though I am a harpist, I was still able to translate the music onto my harp. It sounds wonderful. Absolutely beautiful. It's also really fun to play and sounds like the soundtrack. So, overall, this is a fantastic book (even though the music should be harder)

I LOVE this book. When you play you can see the scenes in your mind. Some of the music is pretty easy but others are challenging. I agree with most other people though, where was " Concerning Hobbits"? Thats the best song in the whole movie

Just a little info
I would just like to point out something. If you look at who is composing (Enya) and the fact that it is written for piano and vocal, you can't have all of the music. Concerning Hobbits has no voices at all. Just thought all you people who were saying you didn't like it because it didn't have enough should have looked more closely at what you were purchasing.

When I'm playing the piano, my mom says its almost like she's watching the movie while she cooks. It takes a while to get the hang of playing it, but once you do its AWESOME! I play it at least twice a day.

This is some of the best movie music
This is some of the best movie music ever, besides Harry Potter, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and a few others. I really like the way it fits in with the movie. I play a few instruments and i have to say, it is quite a peice, for solo or a wind ensemble.

Where's the rest????
A little too easy, and what happened to Concerning Hobbits, A Knife in the Dark, and the Khazad Dum music? Sounds like it's straight from the soundtrack, but I wish it was harder. It has the translations for the Elvish music which I think is very cool. Definately worth the money!

Wher'd all the cool themes go?
I agree with the other reviews! What happened to The Shire Theme, the Mordor theme, a knife in the dark, The Bridge of Khazad-Dum, the theme for Isengard, and the mysterious music they played at Bree? There's also only one somg with no lyrics. However, I can't complain. Although fairly easy, the music was well edited and really sounded like the movie. Good for tolkien fans.

I was disappointed at the limited number of songs in this folio. And everybody's favorite, "Concerning Hobbits," isn't in it, nor any of the Khazad-dum music. I would have preferred a much more complete collection.

lord of the rings
this is a good book, but it is extremely easy. AND the song "the council of elrond" isn't even in there. it's just "Aniron". but other than that, its a really good book. it just sucks that there's only 6 songs, and that its really easy. i hope that there's a harder version coming out soon.

a little too simplified...
the music is great, but the sheet music is obviously geared towards the beginner/early intermediate player. the presentation of the sheet music is very nice though, kinda looks like an really old book, even the pages are kinda yellowish in color. very cool. i just hope they release this again in an arranged piano solo version for the more advanced crowd. definitely buy if you like the music though.
