Great music, questionable value
The Taverner "Christmas Choral Collection" is a collection of some wonderful works, however there are a few pieces in this collection which are prohibitive without a very large, capable choir (Ikon of the Nativity, Apolytikion of the Incarnation). That being said, there are others which can be performed by smaller ensembles quite effectively (The Lamb, Today a Virgin). The real issue is whether or not the rather steep price tag makes the purchase practical for your budget. Or, should you purchase the anthems seperately?
