The songs of a century

It's a great book for intermediate to advanced pianists. It is one of the few titles which is on the market with such great arrangements. I would loved if it contained a lot more boogie woogie.

Fantastic book, but abridged

I've loved this book for years, so, when my copy began to fall apart, I bought a new copy. Imagine my dismay when I learned that some of James P. Johnson's pieces had been cut! Classics like "Keep of the Grass" and "Carolina Shout"

my favourite music book

i ve being playing piano for over 15yrs and i was also on the look out for a book that gave the jazz pianists arrangements of songs. i was sick of getting a book with a straight forward arrangement then hearing its played (on cd) complety different. then i found this book. it was the answer to my prayers superb arrangements and very rewarding to play i ve over 125 music books and this is by far my favourite. it IS advanced unless you are very dedicated (and above grade 7 or 8) dont even bother. so good to get a challenge

Rare Gem.

Ugly cover, fantastic book! I love mine so much I took it to an office supple store and had it comb-bound. This book has more Thomas (Fats) Waller titles than any other non-Fats book. His pieces alone are enough reason to buy the book. Each of his arrangements has a unique flavor of its own. "Central Avenue Blues" and "Hootie Blues" are down and dirty, rare gems. This style is hard to find in print. If you want something to sink your hands into with lots of style, this might become one of your favorites too. You can listen to sound clips of many of the writers on other sites in case you're not sure you'll like the style.
