Excellent method

I'm a professional violinist and teacher. I HIGHLY recommend the 2 volumes of Introducing the Positions because of their logical progression in different keys, the exercises and etudes are extremely well thought out. Haven't really found anything better on the market, and I've been teaching for 40 years!

abcs of violin bks 3 and 4 is better to begin with

I would recommend getting abcs of violin bks 3 and 4 for introducing the positions, then do this one. Makes more sense considering the level of difficulty in this book. Same with Volume 1, get the abcs first. Very good book to continue with though!

Begin with ABC's of Violin Book 4

Start out with ABC's of Violin Book 4 which has a much easier way of introducing 2nd position than this Whistler's Vol II. This book is great for more reinforcement of 2nd position, but dull and too challenging if you haven't had it before. The ABC's makes it fun and basic to begin with, it covers all 4 strings, too. Perfect step to this Whistler's book.
