Exhaustive But Thorough
This is still the best book out there for drilling position work. Some preliminary work should be done for the very young or those just starting position work, but then, every teacher has a few tricks up the sleeve to introduce position work. I also wish the method started on...

The Old Standby
I wish there was a better introduction to the positions - but I can't find one. It would help to begin in the key of A, G, or even D - not C; and on the A and E strings first. Still, the presentation and sequence is logical and straightforward....

abcs of violin bks 3 and 4 is better to begin with
I would recommend getting abcs of violin bks 3 and 4 for introducing the positions, then do this one. makes more sense considering the level of difficulty in this book. Very good book though!
