Nice collection
A lot of the famous Shearing ballads are in this collection. Very romantic arrangements. You can dazzle and impress your girfriend/boyfriend with some effort, careful fingering good sense of rhythm. George Shearing wrote beautiful chord progressions that take you from elation to near tears. Love this book. All it needs is spiral binding.

Wonderful collection
These arrangments are absolutely terrific! Rich, beautiful, full chord progressions. Don't be turned off by the SMP 8 difficulty level. These are playable with a little effort. At first glance, many of the compositions appeared to be not too difficult for an intermediate player. Most are in easy keys, but the shear number of accidentals can be initially overwhelming. An advanced intermediate player can master many of these selections in just a few days or so. Others are more difficult and I haven't yet had the courage to try them. But I've had a great time learning them and I'm proud to be able to play these for my friends or when we have company over. They really make you sound like a professional. Somewhere Over The Rainbow is simply awesome! I had never heard this arrangment before and I'm amazed at how good it is. This is the best song collection I've ever owned and I recommend it highly.

Shearing Classics
I had known most of these Shearing arrangements of standards for 'jazz" piano since I was in high school (more than 50 years ago). I had owned books with many of Shearing's arrangements but wanted as many as possible "in one place" and ordered this collection. I was not disappointed. The arrangements in the main are very inventive --even the "block chord" classic Shearing style material -- and some of the arrangements are downright beautiful and/or inventive. I have been playing "Laura," "Once in a While" and "over the Rainbow" in variations of these versions for years, and never grow tired of them. They are fairly easy to play -- at least at my skill level, and I know I will return to them again and again. I think that for the money, this was an excellent purchase.

More Difficult Than Expected
This book has some good arrangements, but it is more difficult than I expected in looking at it on-line. I am advanced beginner.

First Rate Collection
I've owned this collection for a number of years and keep coming back to it to give it more attention. Shearing's arrangements are very approachable for the intermediate player and don't contain a lot of unreachable chords or impossible fingerings. That doesn't mean they're simple, though. Most keep a majority of your fingers occupied throughout. He has a way of dressing up, but not overdressing the arrangements of even the most familiar melodies.

A Challenge and Pure Joy!
Although my training was classical, I also love playing ragtime, blues, swing, and jazz. And I love a challenge. These wonderful arrangements by George Shearing fit the bill. Challenging chords, familiar melodies, great arrangements, and just plain fun to play!
