Many pros and cons
As a pre-professional hornist, I purchased the book because it contains many excerpts that are missing from other such books, including works of Strauss, Mahler, Ravel, Shostakovich and Stravinsky. Since purchasing it, I have found things both to like and dislike about it. Pros: excellent variety of literature; chart in the back showing frequency of requests for excerpts at auditions; glossary of French/German words/phrases; metronome markings Cons: missing measure/rehearsal numbers; chunks of several excerpts missing (Beethoven 7, Don Quixote); some awkward page turns (Ein Heldenleben, Das Rheingold); vital excerpts missing (Siegfried long call, Bach B Minor Mass). I'd say this is a good starting point, but may need to be supplemented by another similar book, like Daren Robbins' Orchestral Horn Excerpts (hornexcerpts.org) or the Mel Bay Anthology of French Horn Music. Also is the Thompson Edition, which is quite comprehensive, and various "complete horn parts" CDs or books.

Very useful!
Great book, but it is missing a very important piece of audition music, Bach's B Minor mass.
