Robert Schumann composed this nine-movement piece for piano in 1848, and it is now beautifully arranged for flute and string quartets or eight flutes. The very unique instrumentation for the second quartet can be performed by a string quartet of two violins, viola, and cello. These optional parts are included. The contrasting but complementary sonorities of flutes and strings make this performance combination a very special presentation.
