Fantastic piece
I played this piece in college as a music major, and it is one of my favorite pieces. The third movement is technically challenging and the whole piece is filled with emotion. Any flutist should include Hindemith's Sonata in their repetoire.

A very complete flute piece
This is an excellent piece. It has been required in many flute competitions, and has a lot of feeling in it. It does have some beautiful, sorrowful parts to it, as well as some cheerful, and as other people have said, clownish parts. But the "Marsch" of the 3rd mvt...

Excellent
This piece is excellent and intriguing! The music was written during WWII and you can hear the sorrow that happened and the clownlike, unorganized Nazis. It is my favorite piece and I loved learning it.
