El Camino Real - A Latin Fantasy by Alfred Reed (1921-2005). For Concert Band (Score & Parts). Score and full set of parts.. Hal Leonard Concert Band Series. Grade 4.. Grade 5. Published by Edward B. Marks Music (HL.7247).

El Camino Real (“The Royal Road” or “The King's Highway”) was commissioned by the 581st Air Force Band and its commander, Lt. Col. Ray E. Toler. This fantasy is based on a series of Spanish folk melodies and underscored by chord progressions used by generations of flamenco guitarists, whose fiery style and brilliant playing have created a vast body of what many consider authentic Spanish music.

The music follows a traditional fast-slow-fast pattern, with a first section that is based on the dance form known as the jota, and second contrasting section derived from the fandango.

A Must For All Exceptional Wind Groups

El Camino is a well-written masterpiece that tests the ability of all musicians, professional or non. For all woodwinds who enjoy "singing through their instruments, " you will definitely treasure the mixed-meter section of this Latin fantasy. Begin begging your conductor immediately. This piece is worth it!!!!

Great Piece coming from a Percussionist

This is one of the most exhilarating pieces, as a mallet percussionist, that I have ever played. I recommend it to every band that think they can attempt it and its arduous tempo. Really, it is a GREAT piece!

Great

This song rox! Fast and exciting and also calm and relaxing. I agree it's difficult for the woodwinds and fhorn but for lower brass sections it is kinda easy.

Furiously Fun!

I loved this piece! It was thrilling and crazy! When played up to speed, the woodwinds are close to passing out in the middle of the piece because it just never stops --but we keep charging on because it is a storm you want to keep up with! AMAZING! Wish...
