A good workout for reading music
As a teacher, it only works if you read and don“t follow by listening.

A good source, but not completely accurate
When I bought this book, I started looking at the songs for the Moving Pictures album. But when I listened to all the songs and followed the music, the transciber added stuff that wasn't in the music and is easy to read.

Excellent! Very complete!
This is why sight reading is so useful. Instead of listening to the track and be frustrated that you cannot breakdown what Neil is doing on a particular beat or fill, you just open the book and VOILA! This stuff is not for beginners but if you want to actually play these songs it's an absolute must to own. It is mostly very accurate and if you can master this you'll be able to add that little something that might be missing. Great buy! Love it!

Great book. Few errors
I strongly disagree with the reviewer that says there are many mistakes. There aren't that many and so what? If you have the skill to play this stuff you can fill in the blanks by listening to the tracks. If you dont, it wont matter anyway.

Good but many mistakes
Helpful but far from accurate in many places throughout the book. It gets you very close to whats going on but you'll have to make corrections if you want it right. How they got this published with so many mistakes is beyond me.

Simply Awsome
I used to think I knew how to play songs from Rush on the drums, just from listening by ear. But this book showed all the flaws I was making and showed the exact way to play the songs. Very easy to go by and very well laid out.

A must have for any Rush fan
Loads of fun breaking down all the chops and adding them to your repertoire. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to put this together. Kudos to Bill Wheeler for another great book. I only wish all sheet music and scores were this accurate.

FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
Neil Peart is one of THE most underated drummers of all time. He is amazing, it just goes to show that practice (40 years worth!) DOES make perfect...Thankyou Neil, Geddy and Alex for your amazing contribution to music...!

Neil Peart Rocks
This book shows some of Neil's greatest songs, which are awsome. It will be a long time until I can master this. That's why I like it. It gives me a great challange and will last me a long time.

The Answer to Life
I'm only 14, and have been listening to Rush for a couple of years. Ever since I first heard Neil play (Tom Sawyer or Fly By Night was the first occasion), I was astounded by how he could play "with the band" and transform a basic 4/4 rock pattern into any time signature using any instrument imaginable. He's not a drummer, he's a percussionist. This book answers every question you could ever have about Rush drum parts. What a relief to finally see, in writing, a fraction of Neil's capabilities...GET THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!!

neil peart is my hero.
This is a great book for the advanced drummer, it really helps to develop hand and feet coordination and helps learning to play in different time signatures. It definitely helps to have the cd's to play along with, it's a great buy and I recommend it to anyone.

A book every drummer needs to read
When I was 11 years (1975)old I went to my first Rush concert. I was amazed at the drum solo and the long-haired guy (Neil) who was amazing. When Tom Sawyer came out, that was IT! I had to learn some of those fills and time signatures. I bought this book and let my drummer friends and teachers critique it. They said that there are better drummmers than just Neil Peart out there. They're probably right. Ten years later,I am doing things on the drum kit that they can't do. They have all bought the book since. Most have realized that their sticking techniques have been wrong all these years. I love proving those people wrong. Neil has actually taken a lot from Buddy Rich's drum charts and combined them with his unique style and power.

How'd he do that?
About 13 years ago,I bought this book. Bound and determined to figure out some of those classic RUSH songs. The transcriptions were well done. I highly reccomend this book to anybody who wants to increase thier dexterity, reading capabilities, and to test thier skills they have honed thusfar.(I found the book to be a good meter of how good of a drummer I really was up to that point). The book has many songs which deal with odd times. Most of the songs have at least two drum fills that will keep even veteran drummers on thier toes. Most of these drum fills cannot be performed unless you actually learn the propper sticking, aka the 28 Strube rudiments.Something every good professor will teach you. I feel this book is a must have for any intermediate drummer to own. This way, the next time you see all those guys "air drumming" at a RUSH concert, you'll be one of the few who can actually back it up behind a drum kit.
