Andres Segovia Scales for Perfection
I have been using the Andres Segovia Diatonic Major & Minor Scales for my Classic Guitar Students, starting from elementary training to higher education level. "This is the foundation of classical guitar excellence" as I quote the Maestro himself.

Best Scales and Fast
I've not found a better scale system that takes you all over the neck and doesn't restrict you to the traditional box form for scales. If you're serious about learning the scales for guitar, get this book. Segovia is still the master of guitar after all these years.

Great
I have been using the diatonic scales for a few years now. I have noticed from practicing the scales there is a greater ease at learning new pieces. Even Turina's Fandanguillo is easier to play now. The scales, along with Segovia's Slurs and Chromatic Octives, and his recommended Giuliani's arppegios and Sor's studies will do much to improve practice & technique.

Sounds easy but plays hard.
The scales are easy until you have to alternate fingers. I can't seem to just alternate them the way Segovia says to.

A Classic Study Aid
Andres Segovia's Diatonic Major and Minor Scales is quite simply one of the best study aids available for all guitarists. Whether one is pursuing the classical route or following the plectrum path, these studies are a well balanced and thoughtfully fingered aid in expanding one's knowledge of the fretboard and furthering one's left hand dexterity and fluidity. In my humble opinion, it should be used by anyone who is truly serious about his or her guitar playing.

A NEW DAY!
This was and remains the standard for scale studies. There are, in fact natural minor scales in this book. Remember, a melodic minor scales IS a natural minor scale while moving down the fretboard! {descending} The thing is, I saw the new version of it [and] The new version is for modern guitar and much easier to read! I've never played better.

Not the ultimate goal for scale practice
This book is obviously required study for classical guitarists, as most university programs require it. As a demonstration of Segovia's position-shift technique it is invaluable. However, it is only the barest beginning of a true scale practice. Its biggest omissions are: (1) no harmonic minor, (2) no 5-fret stretch positions, (3) lack of systematic position work. So please don't consider it the bible. There is a great deal more to learn and study after the Segovia Scales.

A short but worthwhile classic study.
As the previous author has already stated-this is a required study for any commited classical guitarist-It helps you to develop linear fluid hand movement in the left hand} and it will help to develop speed as well when the scales are practiced at different speeds. A modern series of scale and arpeggio studies that is similiar in fashion and will help the classical guitarist to develop is the downloadable series developed by carlos barbosa lima on melbay know as-Guitar scales and guitar arpeggios--They will help cover a more contemporary approach to the classical guitar studies-I highly reccomend the books.

If you only had one piece of sheet music
On my third copy. First introduced over 25+ years ago in a university beginning classical guitar course. Practice these scales daily for at least an hour and you will be ahead of 95% of the other guitarist. The other 5% will be practicing these scales on a daily basis.

This is great for beginner or advanced.
I have gone through this book time and time again! it's a classic in the world of classical guitar and all good classical guitarists go through it. Everyone should go through the slur studies and chromatic octaves as well which is By the Marvelous Andres Segovia. This book is required by many conservatories and music universities that study classical guitar because of it's unique content.
