A wonderful piece of music

I agree with those who say it is totally worth learning and the rewards are great. This particular edition is, well, the print is a little fuzzy. (Maybe it is just my copy) On bright white paper. I think I will look for another edition.

Give it a Whirl

Learn it- you won't regret it. That's all I can say! My dad isn't much of a music person, and when I played it for him, he actually realized there was some "story" behind it, so that must mean something. Good copy. Etc. Buy. ;)

Go for it!

I've noticed that many of the comments have warned beginners away. No offense intended towards those who commented along those lines, but anyone who truly loves a song can learn to play that song! This piece is so beautiful that it lulls you in, learning it is no barrier. I learned to play the Moonlight Sonata in a week when I was twelve simply because I loved the song. If passion can enable me to do that, then I say, go for it! If you love the song, play it!

Breathtaking.

There's something about this piece that makes it so much different than other pieces. I've heard so many pieces that just don't have the life; the expression; that this piece has. I've cried numerous times while listening to it, and every time I learn a new part to the song i cry. It's just so beautiful. Any true pianist would be able to capture the immaculate beauty this piece holds between its pages. I'm working on it. It's a very difficult piece, but the flow is there. It's just beautiful. It's like the angels are singing when you play it. thats all I can say.

Twilight comment

I would just like to say to Anonymous of Ohio that not all teens think this is a new song and if anything, it might have brought more of them to listen to classical music, I am one of those teens and I am tired of people making generalizations about us.

Beauty

This piece sounds pretty on piano, but the orchestra and string arrangements REALLY bring this piece to life. The pure emotion you can bring with a wind instrument or a violin can truly bring this piece to its highest level.

Amazing

This piece is absolutely amazing!!! I wished they didn't put it in the Twilight movie, though!!! It makes me mad that teens listened to this in the movies and they think it is a brand new song! At least classical music can keep up with modern times. Overall, wonderful, inspirering piece!

Great Music

This piece is a favorite from when I was younger. I am a 41 year old who has played since I was 5. Debussy's music is fun to play and beautiful to listen to. It is challenging enough to require full attention without being too difficult to learn. This is the one piece that I have come back to over and over again...so much that my sheet music had to be replaced!

Absolutley inspiring

I agree with Sydney 13. This piece DOES make you cry. Anyone who loves this piece just as much as i do, should pick up the sheet music and go for it and you will never regret it. It is so timeless and it will NEVER get old in my sheet music gallery. :) Good luck!

Truly Moving

Any piano player knows what I mean when I say that this piece makes you cry, mezmorizes you, and makes you play beautifully. I can't discribe how much I love this piece, and hope one day to come close to how great Debussy plays, how he catches the emotion and feeling of a true piano peice, makes your heart soar with beauty & Talent. Georgous melody, nice harmony, a true classical piece that will never get old.

Timeless Classic

There's a reason this piece gets played over and over down through the years: beauty never goes out of style. Lush harmonies, evocative melodies - very satisfying for both performer and audience.

A work of art

I fell in love with this piece the first time I heard it. Debussy did a masterful job composing it, and I can't hold a candle to the masterful playing I fell in love with--that of Timothy Lovelace. Nevertheless, when I played the notes on the page, I heard the piece unfold before me and I had to go on. I have yet to get past the first page, but I love how the piece challenges me. A word of caution: NOT for beginners.

Lovely Piece of Music

I ordered this to replace an old, old, old piece of sheet music, a copy of which my son wanted. It is the same, other than the cover illustration. It is great to be able to pass beautiful music on from generation to generation. He also wanted Bumble Boogie as a Christmas gift, and I was able to purchase that at Sheet Music Plus as well. That, in his words, will have a more extended learning period.

One of the World's Best Pieces

People love this piece. It's a real crowd-pleaser in every situation I've used it in. It helps to have a good understanding of key signatures and tonality, and to have done lots of finger drills. I've been playing it for 30+ years now and use some of the faster parts for my limited practice schedule. Helps me keep in shape and always ready to play this piece a moment's notice.

debussy did it again

okay i am in love with this composer... period. this piece only personifies his greatness... this piece is not the most difficult of his collection... but like with most songs, it has parts that will take some serious practice... i dont recommend playing this piece unless you are willing to seriously work out some extreme fingering... yeah!!!

Beautiful song!!!

This piece was played at my parents wedding and my mom requested my piano teacher teach me this piece. I heard it on a CD of piano encores and it's so beautiful. I love playing it even though I kind of fell back when I saw it was in D-flat major. But anyways, it's a great piece!!!

Anyone can play this

I would just comment that I had never played piano before, but decided I must teach this piece to myself on piano and I was able to. I was able to get the notes down with about a week of intense practice, and I've played it ~once a day for the past four weeks and I've gotten it down really solidly so that it sounds good too. I'm still not fully on tempo, but this piece is extermely managable if you're dedicated even if you've never played piano before in your life.

Gorgeous Melody

This is a great piece, but I'll let the other reviewers chime in. For those who loved this piece, then I recommend the following other pieces by Debussy: 1. Valse Romantique 2. Reverie 3. Girl with the Flaxen Hair. 4. Ballade All are just as beautiful as Claire De Lune. I think they are better from a compositional standpoint. 1&2 are just about as technically challenging, but shorter than Claire. The last one is very challenging piece to play. I also recommend any of Debussy's early works. I love all of Debussy's works, but sometimes his later works sound too "new age." For those who heard Claire De Lune from Ocean's 11, then I strongly recommend you discover Chopin, who was Debussy teacher, and in many ways a much better piano composer. Here's some pieces by Chopin: 1: Etude Op 10 No 3 "Tristesse Etude" 2: Etude Op 25 No 1 "Aolian Harp Etude" 3: First and Fourth Ballade 4: Raindrop Prelude 5: All of his Nocturnes and Waltzes.

**Dreamy**

When you hear Claire De Lune, you will totally escape from today. It's so dreamy, so beautiful, so haunting. If you are/have been in love, Claire De Lune will definitely remind you of that special time in your life. Claire De Lune rivals Pachebel's Canon in D... it is truly a magnificent song. You will be lost in this song. I recommend this song to anyone with a lot of misery in their life. You'll feel good again once you play/hear this song.

Simply amazing

I actually heard this for the first time from "Ocean's Eleven", and I literally stopped the movie right then to go online and find out what the peice was, and bought it immediately. This is my favorite piano piece of all time, with its notable recurring themes and flowing melodies. I love it and would highy recommend it to anyone who loves classical music.

Divine.

I'm an intermediate piano player, so I struggled with Claire de Lune terribly, however, the beauty of the piece motivated me to perfect my performance of it. I'm not one to brag, but friends and family were very impressed, and I am never too tired of it.

Everyone will Love this song.

I am in my 4th year of lessons, and this is the song I most recently learned to play. I heard it and just had to learn it no matter what. It has its challenging parts, but they aren't anything a little determination won't fix. The last recital I played this in literally made tears come to people's eyes. A definate must have!

Outstanding piece. Can't remember when the first time I heard it, but I do know that its been lingering in my head for quite some time now. I did a web search for the sheet music, ended up on this website, now I'm the proud owner of original composition. Not as difficult as I thought, and its VERY ADDICTING!!!

Wonderful

As someone has said, this piece made me continue with piano. When i was 5 years old I started playing the piano, 7 years later I started hating it, but then my professor gave me this to play. And... Oh my God... i became like a "piano addicted", I could feel the French Tendress and I was like involved in a magic aurea everytime I played it.

a masterpiece

When my teacher first played this for me I immediately had a huge desire to play it. Besides a few hard measures, it's actually not that difficult of a piece. I would say if you are an advanced player you could pick this up in a month or so. I've been workin on it for almost 2 months and I almost have it performance ready.

This piece that got me playing piano!

This piece is absolutely haunting, its fantastic and my fingers feel truly stasfied after playing it. The expression that comes out of this piece every time is different yet still breathtaking. It was this piece that made me want to play the piano. I'm now 15 and after 8 years of playing the paino, i've mastered it. I thought i'd find it harder because its apparently ABRSM grade 7 (can anybody confirm/deny it and i've only taken upto grade 2 but thats because i hate exams, another story, another time) however there is the odd bar thats quite tricky. I'm hopefully soon going to be embarking on the rest of the suite bergamasque because i know that rest is just as beautiful!

Amazing

An amazing solo piece; however, not for beginners. It's a bit tricky to pick up on at first, but once you get the fingering down, you get lost in the music. Claire de Lune is one of my favorite pieces to play- very moving, very powerful, and extremely beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend it to those who have been playing for a few years. It reminds you why you play the piano...
