Saxophone Bible

A must have for all saxophonists. Improve your technique & sightreading, learn the lines of master saxophonist, Charlie Parker. Chord changes are often inaccurate.

Required playing for all saxophone students

Buy the omnibook, buy the appropriate recordings, and listen/play. Listening is a must with this book--the notes are just notes w/o Parker's jazz inflection. Charlie Parker was the master--this book can help you learn from the master, but you must listen, listen, and listen to Parker's recordings first and foremost.

Amazing

This book is fantastic. This is one of those books where EVERY single song is great. Of course, this is Charlie Parker! What else can you expect! This is a must. I'm only 13, and my jazz band teacher is 40, and we both love it. It's great for all ages. A definite for every jazz lover out there!

Charlie parker is a mavin

The book is simply amazing. The solos, however, are complexly musical. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes jazz. Although the Charlie Parker's solos are complex, the listener will eventually understand them and see Charlie for the true genius He is. One can use the book for just learning the stunning solos, going though the chords and learning what notes he use relative to the chord (And thus begin to learn to improvise or refine improvising technique) or go through the chord changes and improvise. This is the necessary book for the jazz player.

GREAT TO GET THE FEEL!!

This book was great after i had recently gotten involved with jazz. I have played some of Parkers pieces before, but this book gives you plenty of choices and plenty of styles to play around with.

This is an essential resource

The solos in this book, along with the recordings from which they were transcribed, constitute the bzckbone of jazz. The goal of any jazz musician should be to perform at a level of creativity, personality, and harmonic and melodic perfection that Bird demonstrated so beautifully . I find this book most usefull as a reference, a collection of the essentials of the bebop language. This book is old, and the careful analysis of the recorded solos with modern transcribing equiptment (unavailable at the time it was written) does reveal a few errors in the notation. These are not all that important anyway. The purpose of this book is not to learn the music as if it were a sonata or concerto, but to help the user unlock the genius trapped in the origional recordings. It is VERY important that you hunt down these recordings. The most important thing one can gain from this is the ability to grasp the whole package, the style.

Could use some updating

There's no denying this book is considered a classic, but it could use a few revisions. Many of the songs are transcribed without key signatures - adding key signatures would make transposing significantly easier. There are some rhythm errors in a few of the tunes ("K.C. Blues" has one measure with only three counts, "Ballade" also has a few rhythm mistakes and is nearly impossible to read the way it's written).

It's Worth the Money!

This is an inspirational book for the serious musician. Definitely a collectable item. Made for the Jazz lover. Not everyone is ready for the Bird experience. Get your self ready, then buy this book. Like, I said you will be inspired.

BUY IT!

A superb way to get in touch with Charlie Parker's solos. Now you can read what you cannot hear. But it is also a great exercise in playing jazz-patterns in general and to improve your skill and speed. For any musical instrument. Warning: start playing the stuff slowly and increase gradually. Use your metronome! It may take weeks, even months to get to the original tempo. And it is sometimes impossible, too.

Best be-boppin' book ever

This is a GREAT book. Has very many of birds most famous compositions, such as Bloomdido, Chasing the Bird, Ornithology, Confirmation, *Parker's Mood. I would definitely recommend this if you are trying to learn to play jazz or play faster. The best thing to do is read to it with a cd, there are hardly any mistakes in the composition which is very amazing for yardbird's music. The guy above me is right GET THIS BOOK! It made me a better musician, it will for you too!

THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK!

I would TOTALLY recommend this book. Some people have called it the "The Bebopper's Bible", which is well deserved. GET THIS BOOK!
