Brandenburg Notebook Selections from Concerti 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 by Johann Sebastian Bach Piano Solo - Sheet Music

By Johann Sebastian Bach

Fred Kern has selected the Brandenburg themes that work well for solo piano. The arrangements reveal a wealth of inventive counterpoint, energetic rhythms and varied instrumental color. The transcriptions are also playable on harpsichord, electronic keyboard or organ, with difficulty level between the Notebook for Anna Magdalena and the Bach's Two-Part Inventions.

wonderful collection

This is a wonderfully arranged collection of many of the movements from the Brandenburgs. The arrangements are suitable for an intermediate player without being too difficult and yet capture the melodies and harmonies of the pieces. I love that it has selections from all of the concertos with some of the most melodious themes in one collection. This is the only collection that has selections from all the concertos and the only collection I have found that does not oversimplify, nor does it overly complicate the arrangements. It is a perfect medium level option. I am a hobbyist player with little formal training, and I can play these pieces with some practice. Thank you!

Brandenburg Notebook

I ordered this to play at a wedding (5 weeks prior). Unfortunately it didn't arrive in time. However, it was good that I had to go to plan B (making my own arrangement), because when it did arrive, I found that it was much too simple for a wedding ceremony. It's mostly in two voices and doesn't give you the joyous, rhythmic feel of Bach's original. It would be fine for an intermediate student who wanted to play some Bach apart from the Anna Magdalena collection.
