Great!

I gave it to my boyfriend as a Valentine's day gift, since he loves Billy Joel. He's very good so the pieces weren't challenging, but for me, the amateur, of course they were! We have loved having access to all of his great pieces. It's awesome :)

One of the best Billy Joel piano sheet music books

This book has a lot of the good Billy Joel songs and with the number of songs in it, it's a very good buy. It is one of the few Billy Joel books to include Prelude/Angry young man (which is a fairly close match to what he actually plays but it doesn't include the keyboard solo part way through Angry Young man). The Billy Joel Rock 'n' Roll also has exactly the same versions of prelude/angry young man. Scenes from an Italian restaurant is very good, though it misses one instrumental (but includes pretty much all the good bits and and it's fairly easy to pick up and play while still sounding really good) If you want 'Piano Man' then get the Billy Joel Keyboard book, every other version in the other books is miles off what Billy actually plays. If you were to get one Billy Joel book, then get this one.

A few good arrangements, but it could be better

This book is worth buying for the arrangements of She's got a Way, Rootbeer Rag and Vienna. But I was deeply disappointed with many other arrangements that where very minor sounding, and different from the original recordings.

Very close to the original

I was greatly impressed at the simplicity of it, and the way that the music sounds so close to the original. Great for anyone who has a general knowledge of the piano!

yipee

I received this book as a gift for my birthday. I've had it for almost a year now, and have just recently completely learned "Piano Man". I took lessons for about 5-6 years, then I quit. Now I just sit down and teach myself the songs. Anyway, I don't like many of the songs in this book, but the ones I do like are so much fun to play and hear. I recommend this book if you have lots of time and patience to learn the songs. Enjoy!

Pretty Good

This book is a typical pop translation of SOME of Billy Joel's greatest works. You play the melody of what he sings (not the actual accompaniment) and the transcriptions are not accurate, however are close and still sound very good. The only reason I would recommend to anyone for getting this book is becuase it has the best translation that I can find of Vienna. If you want to play what he plays, then get "Billy Joel; The Keyboard Book", but if you want variety I'd go with this book.

the book

Here's the deal...It's pretty close to the CD's...they have the piano parts pretty close exactly when he's not singing...when he sings u pretty much play what he sings...then when he doesn't sing u go back to piano...root beer rag is awesome...it has most of his songs so i'd say go for it

Great!

Although some songs aren't what you hear on the CD, songs like Scenes from an Italian Restuarant, are really, really close. It just adds Billy's voice into the lyrics (typical) But if you can't sing, it's great. Solo included in Scenes. Other songs like Miami 2017 and She's Got A Way and Summer Highland Falls, and My Life are great. I gave it five stars because it is very complete, it has every song, and i think its pretty close to what he plays. It is challenging, but I am 15 and can play most of his songs.

Not like the CD versions

If you're looking for basic versions, this book is fine, but if you want the music for what is actually on the CD, get the Keyboard Book (that's a 5-star)

Great Music!

I thought that the book was well written and that the music is VERY similar to what you hear on the Cd. Everything is formatted nicely and some songs are challenging, but worth it!

Great Songs! So-so Sheet Music.

This book is more of a chord guide than a book to play from. Typical of pop arrangements, the music is not written exactly as you hear it on the recording. For instance, where ever there are vocals, the right hand only plays the vocal notes, not the accompaniment. Even some instrumental interludes like in "Billy the Kid" are omitted completely. But the cool runs in "Italian Restaurant" are there. It's worth having, but be ready to be creative to produce a nice song.
