wrong key

I remember John Denver once saying his voice was "too thin and reedy". The songs in this book are in the wrong key for me. But I thoroughly enjoy playing the songs with the use of a capo. (makes the fingerpicking easier too). I'm not talented or experienced enough to transpose.

An example for other publishers

This is one of the most accurate music books I have. Can't say how many books are produced that claim to be as authentic that are not. I strongly suggest that anyone wishing to play a John Denver guitar as recorded should purchase this. Sadly it is all too few songs. I would jump at a chance to purchase any other works that are so accurate.

Great way to learn a guitar method

The Sheet music shows the methods used in producing the style of John Denver. As well as being a solid singer he has a somewhat complicated guitar cord selection for an intermediate player. I have a High school music background and played the guitar for myself for many years and stopped twenty years ago. Now I'm in a wheelchair and chose to exercise my hands as well as my brian and pick at the guitar again. I know how to read music but haven't used a guitar with notes for years. This book will get a novice who is motivated to study and learn what guitar music consists of. I always appreciate an artist's work when I realize how difficult the guitar work is. Add a good voice and you have a very talented person. He worked in a genre of music and was one of the best in it. He is missed by his fans This book will show a student of music what it took to play his sound.

Great Book

I've owned this book now for about 4 years and I can honestly say this book is right on the money. The tab in this book is for the earlier song version's.My favorite song in this book is This Old Guitar and it is my favorite version of the song from his earlier years when he used the capo on this song. The reason I'm writing this review is because I sure wish the same person would do a follow up book to this one with a new set of songs. I do have all of Pete Huttlinger's DVD's as well and they are equaly as great as this book but his transcription's are of John's newer version's, like the Wildlife concert.I would highly recomend this book.John Denver was a great person and his music deserves to be represented in an accurate manner like the way it has been in this book.Maybe if people keep buying this book and emailing Hal Leonard about how great it is they just might put out another one. So,buy it.You won't be disapointed.

Very good, but also consider ...

I don't mean to take anything away from this book, as I think it is probably about the best John Denver tab book available. But also consider Pete Huttlinger's DVD set from Homespun Tapes [Editor's note - Sku # HL.641551]. Pete played and toured with JD toward the end of JD's life and aside from the excellent medium of DVD instruction, Pete is an excellent teacher of John's songs.

Just like John Denver

Highly recommendable for those who want to play guitar just like John. Being really advanced in playing Johns songs, I find this book to be really helpful in its teachings.

John Denver

I agree with everything below, but keep in mind that the tabs are accurate but only one (john's) guitar is tabed in the songs. Example - Take me home country roads does not have the tab (or anything for that matter) on the lead guitar, just john's. None the less, this is the only JD tab book out that i recommend for accuracy.

John Denver Still Scoring Hits

This book is a very good collection of sheet music from John Denver. Transcription is right on the mark. The only variance from what I have seen him perform and what is written here is from "Rocky Mountain High." The transcription is from the earlier recorded version. By blending this with tablature found on the web you can play this song exactly as seen on his videos. Careful left hand fingering on "Sunshine On My Shoulder" (hold pinky down on "e") makes this song a breeze (with practice of course). Overall this is the best Guitar Collection of John's Works that I have seen.
