Great Series
Don't listen to "absolutely stupid," because they clearly don't know what they're talking about. The key containing three sharps is A Major, which is the FIRST KEY that violinists everywhere learn to play in. Guess what? Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the first piece that Suzuki students learn (many when they are 2 or 3 years old), is in A Major - that's right, THREE SHARPS. F#, C# and G# are all within the most basic fingerings on the A and E strings. I've been using this series with my students for the past couple of years, and I think it is excellent. I find it works particularly well for adult beginners. The lessons are well laid out and easy to understand with the help of a teacher.

absolutely stupid
Ok, so my grandma is teaching me the violin, with the help of this book. We both agree on the fact that it is absolutely stupid that the second lesson in this book goes straight to three sharps. My Grandma who has 66 years of experience in playing, and who has played in an orchestra, believes that three sharps should be at least in the second book or at the end of the first book NOT on the SECOND PAGE....

I like it a lot!
this book along with the DVD is so good. Considering I never touched a violin before I'm doing pretty well on my own. Has inspired a new interest I'll keep doing. Probably private lessons. Would definitely recommend this and the DVD to new people trying violin.

Good book for an older adult beginner
This book is more appropriate for starting an adult beginner. Most other books are designed for young children beginning.

Great Beginner Violin Book
I'm enjoying learning to play the violin from scratch with this book. The songs are fun to play with the CD. My friends are amazed at my ability by just doing it on my own and that says a lot.

wonderful violin method books
everything in this beginner book makes sense: the exercises, progression of pieces, etc. I've been using it with my students for 6 years and notice very quick progress right from the start. It's better than all other methods combined, especially as far as motivating students to keep going. I've been teaching for 30 years, so I've tried other methods and observe others that have come out recently. The pieces are superior in this book and the rest of the books in this series. Try the other books. Our recitals include pieces from all 5 ABC's of Violin books. Really great method!

this violin method is great!
this book along with the ABCs of Violin dvd are wonderful. After teaching myself the basics from these materials I'm starting private lessons this week. The CD is excellent too. Nice performances of all the pieces in the book.

love this violin book!
playing violin is a joy. Began with this book as an adult 2 months ago and 'am playing most of it. After a month I found a great teacher who thinks this method is the best out there for beginners. The song selections are motivating and the exercises and scales fill in the gaps. My teacher says kids love it too.

Needs the DVD that it was written for
This book is a companion for the DVD of the same name. It is as basic as the DVD. Ok for first time players.

Valuable Teaching Aid
A good beginners tutor for students of all ages. It appraoches fingering in a logical way. However it does move rather quickly from very beginner methods such as open plucking and open strings to playing full tunes. I would recommend using it in conjunction with other beginners books such as Eta Cohen's Starting Right, or Stepping Stones by Kathy & Hugh Colledge.

abc's of violin, great book
My son's teacher recommends this ABC's of Violin book along with Suzuki bk 1. He's enjoying both books tremendously. Easy on me as a parent who has had very little prior music education but 'am understanding more each week with the help of these good books and our fine teacher.

Wonderful teaching aid!
I play two other instruments proficiently and have always wanted to learn the violin. This book, along with the companion DVD, are wonderful if you are a novice who wants to try to learn the violin on your own. Even if you do not know how to read music this book teaches you in a very simple and concise manner. Highly recommend it!

ABC's of Violin is Excellent
I got all 3 items, the book, cd and dvd and can tell you it worked wonders for me. So much content to cover, very worthwhile. Didn't know how to read music to begin with, but now I know how. Just entered the 2nd book level, has lots of great songs.

Get this book and the matching DVD
This ABC's of Violin book is simple and straight forward. Makes learning the violin easy! Be sure to get the matching DVD. It goes into so much detail and you can play along plus it teaches you to read the notes. The CD also is great. It has the scales on it and all the songs in the books to play along with.

Awesome Book!!
This Absolute Beginner Book for Violin is perfect for someone like me who has no prior experience. I like the simple graphs showing where the fingers go, all the songs, warm-ups, duets, work sheet for note reading and the CD which I bought separately. This system makes learning to play violin a lot easier than I thought it would be and I proved to my family an adult beginning violin isn't such a crazy idea after all!!
