Violin
This book teaches students how to play the violin. It tells you how to hold the bow, and which note to play, in playing a certain tune. It also has pieces for violin trio, and for violin quartet.

Good beginner book for adults
I am taking violin lessons as a brand new beginner to stringed instruments. My violin teacher recommended this as my first book. I already know how to read music so this book has been very easy to follow. Certain things that you learn from your instructor such as bowing technique, leading with the elbow, etc. are not covered in this book so I highly recommend working with an instructor if purchasing this book.

nice begginers book
This is a good book, but I wouldn't recommend it for a "one and only" book on how to play violin. I haven't used it a lot yet, but am looking forward to it. It has a good variety of excerises and tunes, which is great!

A great starter violin book
I used this book when I began the violin as a child, and now I am using it to teach my own children! I love the progression, and that the children are actually playing real songs so early. It motivates them.

Great teaching tool
We use this to teach our beginning and intermediate violin students. It's very progressive and we see students learning to play violin step by step and enjoying it immensely. There is also a Herfurth "Early Classics for Beginning String Quartet" which has sheet music for ensemble playing for 1st, 2nd, 3rd violin, viola, cello, base and piano accompaniment. The scale book and the Christmas book are nice additions to the program.A duet book might be a nice addition to this set. I use the Samuel Applebaum Duets as I don't believe there is one by Herfurth. The Herfurth series makes teaching violin a joy. Bernadine Vincent, Director of Golden Strings Conservatory of Music
