This was the very first song I ever learned. It was because of this song that I loved too play the piano, and got me started on level 5. This is a great song to play and buy!

Really Satisfying

It's a really enjoyable song to play. I learned it two years ago and I'm still playing it for parties and get togethers that we have. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a "sit down and play immediately" kinda song but once you learn it, it's so fun to be able to show off. It sounds like the actual song! My friends love it when I play it. I started taking piano in 10 years ago and I worked on this song for about 2 months b/f i had it perfectly. Seriously, get this sheet music! It's well worth the money.

Great, Easy, and Good to Sing along to

after more than 3 years of wanting to play this song badly, i've now made my dream come true. just a year ago, i couldn't play this song worth nothing. now that my small hands and fingers are more flexible and i'm more advanced, i can now play the song after hearing a million times over the past 3 years. when i started learning it back in July, it just came to me after being confused about how the notes went, even though i knew the song. it took more than 2 weeks to learn it by heart, came easy, b/c i've heard it so many times, and the fact that's it's repetitive. some of the notes i didn't know about, so i improvised and learned the bridge of the song from her video after running it back so many times.

Yes!!! #1

I absolutely loved it! When you just play it alone though, it doesn't have the best melody. But when you sing too it's great! So if you're planning to play and sing, you'll love it! Give it a shot!

Awesome song.....not the best piano part

I heard this song on the radio and absolutly loved it. I got the music and it was kinda a disappointment. The beginning of the song is cool but if you don't have a singer than there's not really a melody in it. I still like to play it though.

Very Cool Song

When I first got the music for this song I didn't really even know how it went. I'd only heard bits and pieces of the song. And when I saw the 5 sharps I freaked and decided right away it wasn't worth the sweat. But when I picked it up again and tried it, it was really easy. Now I love to play it. The music is gorgeous. Give it a shot.

This is a GREAT song. The arrangement, though, isn't the best. My advice is to mess around with it a little and see what sounds good. It's fun to play and sounds impressive. It's definatly worth buying!

I Love This Song!!!

Okay, I know it looks really scary at first, but give yourself a chance, and you'll find it isn't that hard! The Be Not Nobody book sat on top of my piano for weeks before a actually tried it, and then it was a breeze!! This song is my group's theme, I mean, we'll walk through the halls singing it, so when talent show tryouts came around, we totally did it!! It sounded amazing at the actual talent show on the grand piano!! for weeks afterward people kept coming up to me saying "Hey, your that girl that played A Thousand Miles! That was awesome!" I highly recommend it to anyone who can play piano and sing, or has friends that can!!

Some Problems (still good)

When I first got this piece, I was in fifth grade. I could read the notes, rhythms, etc., but my hands were too small to play the octaves, which was really annoying. When my hands got bigger, I could play it, but I soon got bored because the piano doesn't carry the melody. It is possible to tweak the song, however, to play the melody.

Just Beautiful

When I first heard my friend play this on the piano, I immediately recognized it. I have always loved Vanessa's music and since I knew how to sing, we decided to do a duo. She played and I sang this song at a talent show and we won! It's a classic song and if you combine the singing and piano, it sounds just beautiful. I recommend this to anyone who loves trendy soft rock music!

a good vocal piece

This is a great song, don't be antimidated by the 5 sharps! It's simple yet impressive, however it doesn't follow the melody. If you dont have vocals then it can be very borring and repetitive. I would suggest this piece to someone who plays AND sings.

I have been playing for a long time and I really love playing this song. I played it for a piano recital I recently had and got so many compliments on how pretty the song is. I also taught my friend, who has never played piano before, to play it. She thinks it's a little hard, but she can play it. I definitley recommend this song!

Ok, with some improvision to cover the vocal parts the song is awesome. all it takes is some extra talent to add to this to make is sound right like Vanessa does and to not just play the piano parts that are written. All sheet music that is written is never played the same way. I have been playing for 18 years and can sight read very well. I am in a local band in which we have used this song as a cover in reherson. [...]

Winnig talent quests with this piece

I thought that this piece was beautiful and i enjoy playing it. I am 17yrs old and i have been playing the piano for 9 yrs and i have been taking singing lessons for 5 yrs. I played this piece in my school talent exposition, i sang and played piano, and i won first prize. I think that this piece is very easy to learn and play. If you do want to play this piece i suggest that you have a singer aswell because it makes it sound alot better. Just last week i played this piece ,piano and singing and i came third in a state talent quest. I think its great but what would i know i mean i only won and came third in two big talent expos with this piece. In my advice you should buy this cause you will have just as much fun as me!!!!!!!********

I have been playing for 9 years and i thought this piece was going to be lovely i got it and most of the parts are really nice and fun to play but it does get to the point where it can be boring with out a singer. I wouldn't reccomend it unless you had someone to sing it with you

Yes for a band, no for piano solo

I've been playing piano for 5 years. This song is great for a band to play because to make it work you really need a vocalist and a guitarist, but if you wanted to play it just on the piano, it doesn't sound as good. It disappointed me because I can't really sing along with it or anything, so it sounds bland and repetetive.

Beautiful but a bit disappointing...

I've been playing for nine years, and I thought this song would sound great on piano so I got it and learned it in like two days. The first part is good, but its very repetitious and I'm a bit disappointed in the piano adaption. Without someone singing the melody it doesn't sound very good. But it is a very pretty song. I wouldn't recommend it as a solo, but with someone singing it sounds amazing.

Everyone i played for LOVED IT!!!

This piece is VERY beautiful. it's the exact thing as in the cd, so you can play along with the actual song as a backtrack so you can have vanessa carlton singing & the rest of the instruments & it sounds REALLY nice! It also only took me 2 days to get the whole song and about 5 days to memorize it... don't let the sharps & flats get to you, the trick is to fall in love with the black keys because you use them so many times. since its so repetitive, *in a good way* its very easy to learn. Everyone i play this for finds it very impressive, including me, and i DEFINATELY recommend this song to everyone.

Wonderful Piece

This music sounded great when I got it down. It doesn't take that long to learn. For the level of difficulty - I've been playing for seven years and it was about average for the difficulty of my pieces. It's great practice for playing in the key of B. The song is really impressive to play to other people. Once I played it at a friends house and everyone was amazed. They want me to play it all the time now. It's not as hard as it sounds or looks. Also, I like this piece because it's the actual accompaniment that Carlton plays and not a dumbed down version or just the melody with chords. Because it's not the melody, it's a little hard to sing a long to, though. I would definitely recommend this piece.

As a ninth grader who has played piano for 8 years, I love this version. It sounds exactly like the CD, and isn't too difficult, because it is repititious (not boring though!). If you like to sing, too, this is in a decent key for a mezzo soprano or alto. All those notes and sharps may look intimidating, but it really isn't hard.

Impressive yet so easy

Wow...okay I admit, it took me a while until i built up the courage to even try playing this song. Just looking at the notes and the key signature, man that was depressing. BUT i spent some time to fill out every sharp on each note and FINALLY i tried playing it. To tell you the truth, it's not that hard. The pattern repeats itself maybe with octaves on the bass going to just a single note. It only took me a day or so to play maybe 75-80 %of the song...it's that Easy. Start low, and then try getting faster and faster. It looks so impressive when you perform it in front of people, but soon you'll know..it's EASY.

From a novice piano player

I play viola and I'm quite advanced. I really didn't know how to play piano never took lessons ever, but I can read music soo I decided to get the sheet music. I must say that it did take a while to get my fingers to work together, but after some work, slowly but surely, I can play the song all the way through.. and it IS a crowd pleaser! I also purchased the entire Be Not Nobody song book and if you like ATM there are definitely more great songs (some are more challenging and other are easier) I basically taught myself piano by learning A Thousand Miles, so if you read music and are interesting in piano, or are just a piano player who enjoys ATM, the sheet music will not let you down.

When i first bought this song, i thought it would be very difficult to learn on my own. Then, just after one day of practicing, i understood the music and figured out it was only the same notes/patterns which made it a lot easier for me to play, and gave a large variation of notes for the ears of the audience to hear. amazing... also for practising "B maj"

One of the easiest ways to learn a contemporary pop song in "B maj". The melody is wonderful, everybody loves the song and my neighbours are really impressed, so whatelse do you want? And once you play this one, you can teach yourself other familiar songs in "B maj". There are really a lot: Like "I don't like mondays" (easy to play with an impressive intro), or famous James Bond - themes ("You only live twice", "License to kill" etc...)

Don't be intimidated!

At first I thought this piece looked really hard, but if you've heard the song before it makes it easier. It really starts to come together and sound really good. I'm really impressed!

A Thousand Miles... Rox!

When I first bought the music, I thought "Oh no, I can't play this!" but after a couple of days I found that the pieces of the puzzle were coming together. This song is fresh and beautiful any great to listen to. Anyone who knows the scales and notes of the piano should buy this music; you don't know what you're missing.

Good song , and not too hard to play

This sheet music is great. It is the same music Vanessa plays to. However, many complain that it is not the melody of the song. But I have learned that Vanessa Carlton doesn't actually play with the melody when she sings. Also the song is very repetetive and is not that hard once you learn about 4 different sections

Good Pick For Bored Piano Players

This song was nicely done and i believe is used in the same key as the original song. It's difficult at first with the sharps, but once you've praciticed it sounds much better. I would definitely recommend this piece if you're looking for something challenging however the piano is the accompaniment to voice so you won't be playing the melody through the entire piece.

How much better could it be?

This is THE BEST song I've ever played on the piano in the pop genre. I took this into my band class(I also play clarinet) and played it in my spare time. The teacher heard it and made a full band arrangment and I'm going to play on stage! I love the song and I think thats why I learned it so quickly, but be prepare for a tough, fast moving piece if you buy it!

Great

This is one of those songs you listen to on the radio and say to your friends "wow, wouldn't it be awesome to be able to play that song?" This song is wonderful and the best part is, it sounds harder than it is. I am an intermediate piano student so this song took me a while to master, but I had so much fun. Only problem is, after a while, it gets annoying. So, if you do buy it. Don't over play it to your family, much less yourself. However, it's a great buy.

From a non reader

I work as a piano act (who doesn't read music and just worked this song out by ear from the recording) and do this number as part of my set because it's such a good song. No-one asks for it. Perhaps you'd be better off transposing it into the right key for your voice and leaving the melody part out all together. I can imagine it being worth getting just to steal some quality harmony for beginners but playing the vocal line on the piano sounds a bit much if the backing going's to make sense as well.

A Thousand Miles....It's Great!

When I first recieved this piece, it looked very difficult. But as you read through it, it is very repetitive, and easy to catch onto. (It is very much like the original song you hear on the radio.) The fact that it's in B major does get annoying sometimes, but it is easy enough. When you finally learn this song well, it is easy to sing to. I love it! It still impresses my friends... I heard the song on the radio and immediately I wanted to play it. I took piano lessons for 3 years but then I quit. I didn't play the piano anymore and so I was afraid that I shouldn't be able to play this song, but... WRONG! Can you sing too?

I just bought this sheet music a few days ago and I was quite disappointed to find that most of the melody and the entirety of the chorus is not included in the piano part. I'm not sure how much the guitar notes add to it, but playing it on the piano alone, especially if you can't sing, gets a bit boring after awhile, with only monotonous chords for large stretches. So don't buy this if you can't sing (or, for that matter, are male).

If you recognize that the piece is in the scale of B major (everthing sharp except B and E), it's a pretty easy joint to learn. I like songs like this because they make sound like a better piano player than I actually am. The chicks dig it. I wish I could write like Vanessa. She's my inspiration. Well written!

this piece is great to play. its not too difficult but still has a bit of a challenge (a lot of jumping octaves and 5 sharps). I thouroughly enjoyed learning this piece, but now that i can play it by memory, and listen to myself play it, it seems like if you don't sing along to the music it really doesn't sound that good...basically its just monotonous chords. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this piece if you can play and sing simultaneously, but not if you just play. THis is also great for kids/teens playing in a talent show at school...they can impress their friends with their piano skills, and a lot of people know of the song. If you like this piece, i recommend buying the book...you might also enjoy pieces such as 'Ordinary Day' and 'Twilight.' Happy playing!

Vanessa Carlton is Awesome

When I first heard her song on the radio and saw the video, I instantly wanted the sheet music to play along to. I have been taking lessons for 12 years, but it was all classical, so this was a change in the style of music I am used to playing. I can play music by ear, but not too well, so I bought the real music to learn how to play the way she plays it. It was very simple to learn and now I can sit down and play the whole thing without the music while playing along with the CD. That way I can sing along too while playing (but I need her singing along with me). I highly recommend that you get this, I love her music so much I ordered the whole book of her songs. Hopefully I will learn them all! Good Luck

A Thousand Miles.........buy it!

Just like Kelly who recently reviewed this song I'm 13 too, and have only been having lessons for a year, but i found this song easyish to play. I heard "A Thousand Miles" on tv when I was at my friend's house and now I'm hooked! The music may have 5 sharps but I just forget about it when I'm playing it because the sharps dont really make it hard, or harder than most of the grade 3-4 pieces I'm used to. It's fabulous, buy it, you'll love it. Also, Vanessa Carlton's album, Be Not Nobody is really brilliant and should be bought by everyone!

Piece of cake and fun too!!

I've been taking piano lessons for a little less than a year and I may be only 13, but i thought this song was AWESOME!! It's pretty easy and its a lot of fun to sing with. Its good for beginners who are looking to play popular music rather than the classical stuff (which is what I normally play). However, I don't get why some people commented on the 5 sharps...I didn't really notice, its just that it's in B major...but I can understand why it might frustrate some people, it gets quite bothersome after awhile (lol). BUY IT!!

BUY THIS SHEET MUSIC!

This is the best piece of sheet music I have ever bought. The five sharps are not as scary as they look. If you sit down with the piece, you can easily figure it out and become familiar with it. It took me just about two days to get the hang of it, and within five days I had it mastered. Since the piece has a logical pattern to it, it is easy to memorize. You can play right along with the CD. It's great that it is the actual notes that Vanessa plays: not a transcribed melody version. I highly recommend it! Not too hard, lots of fun, and a great rectial/show off piece! :) Enjoy! Now go buy it! :)

octaves!

I bought the sheet music when I heard a classmate playing this piece in the classroom. It sounded so amazing and I was eager to buy the sheet music. The sheet music was a bit difficult to catch on to because there was a lot of sharps and octaves. It took a day to get the fingering down and I continued to practice it until I was fluent. The music is very repetitive. It would probably sound better with a guitar to add on the melody. I had trouble with some of the notes because my hands aren't big enough. overall, it's good sheet music

This is an amazing piece. A beautiful song with beautiful words. The score sheet is brilliant and when played comes out to sound exactly the same as the real song. The five sharps were nothing. Being a beginner I was a bit worried that I would not be able to play this. WRONG! Within a few days I was able to play this song along with the real one. The sheets are nice, large, and amazing quality. Very simple to read. Final words, Perfect first music sheet for my collection and that I wish for everyone to be able to play this as nicely as it sounds.

She's not Alicia!!

Well, it's a good song but I personally don't like playing it. I'd rather be playing the melody. I like Alicia Key's Style much better than Vanessa's. I like the song but I don't enjoy playing it. Super easy though.

Great Piece!

Don't be frightened by the 5 sharps. It really only took me 10 minutes to get the song down. It's really easy once you get the hand of it, but it's the EXACT arrangement that you hear in the real song. This means that there is no melody playing, just the piano part. There is a melody line above it, but it's impossible to play the accompaniment and the melody at the same time. This piece sounds completely professional! It's really great!

FunFunFun

Hearing a song on the radio and being to play it are two competely different things. When I first heard this song i loved it and it is my favoite now. I love the way the piano shifts from the melody to the accompaniment. This song gave me trouble at first but after a little while I could play it fluently and people know what I'm playing when they hear it.

Musically Talented!

When I first heard this song, I loved it! THe first thing I payed real close attention to was the piano. This is a tough piece to play and it most likely will take a little time and practice before you can play it fluently. Her fingers just fly and fly on the keyboard and that's what yours are going to do if you play a lot and are good at the piano. I encourage you to purchase this piece because of its more difficult piano part. It will challange most people. This only took me four days to get it down pat but I have been taking piano since I was three and now I am 13. You'll love the piece!

Vanessa Carlton is very talented.... she can play the piano and sing beautifully.. for me, i'm not the best piano player in the world so it took me about 3 to 4 weeks to have it memorized and i knew everything about the piece... i think you people should buy it because it will always be around and when your an old person you'll just love playing it just as you loved playing it when it was brain new.. so just buy it... nothing going to hurt you!! well buh bye!! hope you found this helpful!!

Flying Fingers

"A Thousand Miles" is a beautiful song, but it is fast and contains five sharps. If you can get the timing down and keep it flowing, it's wonderful to play and listen to. It may take a little time to learn, but it's worth every minute.

GREAT TO PLAY ON THE PIANO

This is a great song to learn on the piano and it is not that difficult. I play guitar and piano so I love to play it on both.

Very Faithful To Recording

This is a great arrangement. It's an accompaniment so it's great for a vocalist to play and sing. But, it is a bit difficult so it may take some practice.

Nice song & piano adaption

At first when I heard this song on the radio, I did not like it very much. It sounded different from the music I hear, having a strong pulses of background melody of an orchestra. It grew on me & I really like the song now. The piano adaptation is faithful to the original recording: the times when solo piano is played is exactly as shown on the sheet music (sounds great). When we get to the verses, the piano gets to play the background music, meaning that it best to have a person singing along, another instrument accompanying, or merging the music lines of verse into the piano music. If you play what's shown, some of the verse will be left out, however it still sounds quite good (although, it gets a bit repetitive; the same lines of music repeat over and over again). The song is not that difficult, although it took me a few practices to get the hands to work together on the right beats. Overall, it's a great adaption to a song that was made for the piano.

She's wonderful!

This song is really pretty and her music is unique. She is great if you're over Britney Spears and other teenie boppin' music. Her album is awesome too. I can't wait for the whole music sheet for her album.
