A Mad Russian's Christmas (As performed by Trans-Siberian Orchestra). By Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Paul O'Neill and Robert Kinkel [Trans-Siberian Orchestra]. Arranged by Bob Phillips. Orchestra. Part(s); Score; String Orchestra. Pop Intermediate String Orchestra. Christmas; Light Concert; Pop/Rock; Secular; Winter. Grade 3.5. 148 pages. Published by Alfred Music Publishing (AP.38426).

As performed in the fabulous Trans-Siberian Orchestra live concert, experience "Trepak" from The Nutcracker as you never have before. Though greatly enhanced by adding a rhythm section, the piece can be played by strings alone. An optional electric violin part provides the perfect spot to feature an electric instrument. If you haven’t seen TSO, check them out online and then share this one with your students. Perhaps include a field trip to see the band live with lights and effects.

Solid Transcription

Same form, key and parts as the original. Some of the piano seems to have been fleshed out in the strings, but that is just fine. It also uses the Trepak bowings. It made for a very solid and enjoyable performance. Will definitely play again.
