A Festival Prelude by Alfred Reed (1921-2005). For Concert Band. Score and full set of parts.. Hal Leonard Concert Band Series. Grade 4.. Edward B. Marks Music #MCB78. Published by Edward B. Marks Music (HL.6781).
Composed nearly 50 years ago (1957), this masterpiece from the late Alfred Reed displays his characteristic style and total command of wind band orchestration. Composed using a single theme and two fanfare figures that are woven throughout, this concise work stands out as a true classic in the repertoire. (4:30)
This recording used with permission from the Klavier Music Productions CD K 11130. “Alfred Reed Live! Volume 4 – Acclamation!” by the Otonowa Wind Symphonica – Toro Ito, conductor.

A Festival Prelude
I have A Festival Prelude scheduled to be played in April so it has not been handed out to the band. However, I have been Conductor or Conductor Emeritus of the most part since 1966 to the present and I have programed A Festival Prelude about six times since it...

Amazing!
This is one of the best band pieces ever. In my high school we have 2 bands, a lower and higher level. When we were invited to play at Lincoln Center, we chose this piece. I can tell you it was so amazing to play this song in Lincoln center....

So Exciting
I am playing this with my college's concert band and it's one of the most exciting pieces I've ever played. It really reminds one of a grand festival. I like the contrast between the majestic parts and the slow section. The brass part at the beginning gives me goosebumps. I...

A Festival Prelude
i am currently playing this in a high school symphonic band, and i would strongly suggest this to be played throughout bands everywhere, it allows the brass section to be heard along with a strong woodwind allowance. excellent song.
