60 Progressive Solos for Classical Guitar (Featuring the Music of the World's Greatest Composers: Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven & Brahms). Arranged by Mark Phillips. For Guitar. Guitar. Featuring the Music of the World's Greatest Composers. Classical. Collection and accompaniment CD. Standard guitar notation. 120 pages. Published by Cherry Lane Music (HL.2500584).

ISBN 1575606283. With standard guitar notation. Classical. 9x12 inches.

Most classical guitar folios feature compositions by the lesser-known guitar composers. This collection, however, exclusively features music by the world's most renowned composers. The works of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frederick Handel represent the culmination of the Baroque era. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stands at the summit of the Classical era. Ludwig van Beethoven straddles the Classical and Romantic eras, and Johannes Brahms is the giant of the Romantic era. For educational purposes, the pieces have been organized in order of difficulty within each composer's section. In addition, complete performances of all pieces can be heard on the accompanying CD. Enjoy! Includes: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring * The Harmonious Blacksmith * Ode to Joy * Lullaby * and more.

One of the first books I brought & still 3 years on I've not mastered all its content. I have found it A1 offering variety of material for skill levels ranging from complete beginner to higher level intermediate. Have been delighted with it.

As an old guy trying to learn more or less from scratch, I really appreciate this book. I'm sure the arrangements are simple, but I find that I can handle them, and (unlike another reviewer) I'm don't care if the keys have been changed. The harder solos...

are challenging; the easier ones I can (almost) sight-read. And I like having the CD, which I listen to for the pleasure of it, too. If I have one complaint, it's that although the solos are arranged in order of increasing difficulty for each composer, the pieces by Bach, which come first, are quite a bit harder than those by Handel, Mozart, etc. So if you really want to start with the simple ones, go to the Handel section first! I would certainly recommend this book.

  • August 13, 2005 Beware!

This book is just plain bad. When I saw it I said "I lucked out, 60 famous composers works in one book, this is amazing" When I got the book it was quite a different story. I have over 60 music books, and I had never returned one until I...

got this one. All of the pieces are washed down and the original keys are transposed so that they are more ascesible for begginers I guess. But I was a beginner once and this book would not certainly have been conducive to my development on the guitar. I know better than to buy a book that says "easy" on it, but this one didn't, yet it is in that format. What can I say, I was totally dissapointed. If you are a beginner, take it from me, steer clear away from easy books. They are easy because the arrangements are poor not because the pieces were easy ever. Instead just get an intermediate book and take the time to work through it. It'll be much more rewarding and you'll be playing more accurate transcriptions.
