    Difficulty Level:
  • June 24, 2009 Well organized, but poor selection and CD

Bolt does a fine job organizing the pieces so that a beginner can work through each of them and develop additional skills. The fingerings, the tab, and the musical notational are all professionally done. But Bolt given the huge amount of material, Bolt has not selected songs that will really...

move the player. Most are not well known, and don't sound that great. The same can be said of the second book. Also, in both books, Bolt speaks on the CD. The things he says are completely unnecessary; announcing the track number for example. Many great instructional books come with CDs that can be listened to in their own right. Unfortunately, Bolt's solo selection and unnecessary talking make that impossible here.

  • March 18, 2009 Terrific collection of graded solos

Many of these selections are not found in other graded collections. Good work. I wish, however, there was a section with the same selections, but w/o tablature, so pages would not have to be turned so often.

    Difficulty Level:
  • February 14, 2008 good progression in difficulty but....

the progression in difficulty is right, but i feel the author shouldn't have included TAB. i am not a notation snob, it's just that TAB becomes a crutch. in fact TAB actually keeps students (and even me) from getting what's going on harmonically. i'm whiting out...

all the tab in the book. other than that, great repertoire for the beginning student. it will be a mainstay in my studio.

  • December 15, 2004 Ben Bolt God has placed his loving hand

Well, what can one say about Ben Bolt? A Christian from what I hear, that has served him well. He serves others via his books. One can feel this from a distance! It's so super clean and well thought out. One often wonders where his inspiration originates?
